Notice I posted this to the cheese hole, in hopes of a couple of responses. Prove me wrong...let's see if this thread hits 100...heck 50 from the cheesehole of chat.
As a follow-up to yesterday's post : Tech Ping: Chickensoup is in Hot Water. Computer Died a Horrible Death. Need to Save Its Soul!
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/3739180/posts
I am now in the market for a new computer.
Your recommendations.
I like powerful computers, money is less of an issue than configuration. This laptop is only moving between desk and home.
Got to haves: 17" screen really fast nice color Good fans and airflows removable battery usb ports 2 or 3 Ethernet port card port for camera cards and others blue tooth wifi
Nice to have CD drive Touch screen doesn't flipping matter.
Sadly I have to move to WIN 10 and upgrade office from 2003.
Your recommendations and experiences would be great.
A big bowl of chickensoup to the recommendation that I choose!

Then at least 8GB RAM.
I have 16GB RAM plus SSD. Wouldn’t go back to HDD’s. ...but I’m a software architect and usually have virtual machines running other OS’s.

I've bought two computers from Computer Upgrade King, https://cukusa.com, in the past couple years.
Both have 64 GB RAM, big SSD's and are as fast and powerful as all get out.
Running Windows 10 and used for photo editing and video.
No problems, haven't seen anything comparable at lower prices.

Ooh! Double-sided! Aren't you lucky.
My first computer was a Kaypro II in 1982. Still works.

I’ve kept the 5.25 disks (3!) for the FORTRAN Star Trek game used late at night on the company Digital-PDP 1100 in 1981.
They have probably succumbed to redox-erosion by now but...history fades slowly from the mind.

"Sadly I have to move to WIN 10 and upgrade office from 2003."
Just did this move 2 weeks ago; I feel your pain.
Fortunately, I bought a MacBook Pro 5+ years ago, and I - actually right this very minute - am running iOS and, in another window, MS10. I loaded vMware Fusion, and that allows me to have a virtual Windows environment. I toggle between the OS/screens by moving my cursor to the upper left window, and choosing between the resulting tiny screens. One click, and I've changed environments.
If I were to do it again, I'd do the same thing: get the MB Pro with the most cycles, load up all the RAM it will handle, get 2T+ of solid state and hold onto it for 5+ years.

You don’t give chat enough credit... Most folks are clicking back and forth from news to chat all day long. There is a LOT of good stuff comes into chat.
Besides, quality is more important than quantity.

>>Sadly I have to move to WIN 10 and upgrade office from 2003. Just run Linux. This problem and more.. solved.
100% agree! Also, if you are determined to buy a windows flavored laptop, I suggest making sure it is Linux compatible for future upgrades which you will undoubtedly regret if you hadn't. The problem with some laptops is their proprietary drivers that are top secret and keep you shackled to a windows system.
