Starting in May, the only smoke coming out of Disneyland and the Magic Kingdom will be from the fireworks.
Disney announced on Thursday that it is banning smoking, vaping, and stroller wagons in Disneyland, Walt Disney World, Disney water parks, and the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, effective May 1. There will be designated smoking areas outside of the entrances, and smoking visitors will be able to return to their park once they are finished, a Disney spokesperson told the Orlando Sentinel.
Dennis Speigel, president of International Theme Park Services, said it's "about time" smoking was banned at Disney parks. Because the company typically sets trends, he expects other theme parks will reconsider their own policies as well.
Under the new rules, strollers must be no larger than 31 inches wide and 52 inches long, and effective immediately visitors are no longer allowed to enter a park with loose ice in coolers. Instead, guests are asked to use reusable ice packs, or request ice from restaurants on property. Disney says guards won't have to dig around in ice at bag checks, getting people inside the parks faster.
Probably more worried about smuggled in sandwiches and drinks so you don’t have to pay for the extortion priced Disney food inside. My wife’s niece did that years ago. The food prices inside were horrendous!
Same for several other theme parks I have been to. Never been to Disney.
Oversized strollers and the monorail don’t mix.
I’ve been to Disney World 5 times in my life. Was there right after it opened, 1st time.
Here what you do:
Get up really early and go to Denny’s, IHOP, Waffle House or other breakfast place. Eat a huge breakfast with lots of calories! STUFF YOURSELF! Don’t worry about them, you WILL burn them off.
Go to the Park really early so that you are among the first in line.
Enjoy yourself all day without having to stop and eat the waaaay overpriced foods......................
Sieg Heil Dennis Speigel!
I live near Disney.....Have never seen anyone smoking in the park.....ever.
Being a non smoker I wasnt aware they had a designated smoking area?
>>>Trying to have nothing to do with anything Disney. That includes FoxNews.
Disney has nothing to do with Fox News. That is in a separate company controlled by the Murdoch family. The Disney Fox transaction included Twentieth Century Fox movie and TV studios, most of its cable networks and international assets. Not included in the deal were the Fox network and Fox News.
Great episode
well, at least they will let the smokers back in after having a cig or vaping.
Probably hose ‘em down upon re-entry to de-contaminate them but Hey.. you can buy photos of that too!!
Seems like the no smoking rule is going to be VERY disruptive for families and large groups for.... what upside exactly?
I’m not a smoker but what is the mentality and justification. Something wrong. It would take a looong time to get out and back into the park.
They will let you carry in food. Daughter and GDaughter always take in a bag of Chick-Fil-A nuggets (as recently as 2 weeks ago) so they just buy 1 meal a day in the park. They don’t hide them!
Until this ban, I can remember 3 designated places (there may have been more) in Anaheim Disney.
In London this month, I noticed that strollers were a reasonable size, thank heaven. The ones seen at Disneyland are the size of Smart Cars. Always hated to see those vast parking spaces for them - or to get run off the Disney sidewalk by them.
I’ve worn a Mouse Suit to the park several times for Hallowe’en. Never been kicked out.
Being a Disney World regular, I find all of these changes welcoming.
The problem is those smokers who can’t just put the butt out in the can. They flick butts in the bushes and on the ground. I have several times run into smokers walking around and have almost been burned by one. Also why they don’t sell gum in the parks
We’re in the Disney Vacation Club and have enjoyed MANY visits to Disney World. Had a great time, enjoyed great food (the food is expensive yes, but, you get a LOT of food for the price...we usually eat brunch and lupper) and haven’t been asked to leave a park yet.
We’re starting to travel via sailboat now. We’re saving our Vacation club points so when we get to Hawaii, we can stay at the Disney resort there for a month for points only. And there is a marina just down the road from the resort.
I had to do that once. We had just arrived at our hotel and I blew my knee out.
The Mrs and I pushed/rolled a wheel chair around EPCOT. Next day, we rented an electric cart and I rode that around. Got put to the front of the line and everything.
Hated almost every moment in the cart. It’s hard to hold hands and not drive over her.
One of the better things that happened was one of the Citizens of Hollywood, Jim Diamond, who is a personal favorite of mine, gave me a private slight of hand/magic show. That was fun.
Besides, the parks aren’t that big. Just sit down for a bit if you get tired. Leave the wheel chairs for the people who need them is my philosophy.
Late to the thread.
Just got home for the first pitch of Macanudo season.
Cheers.
when do you come to oahu
Then please stop talking about things you know nothing about.

Six Flags and Branson Mo will take you to the cleaners of food prices.
And my mention of Disney was from my wife, niece, sister-in-law, nephew, and working companions who have all been there.
