Robert King David Ross of Charleston wears his Egyptian headress while reading the 23andMe letter informing him of his familial link to Pharoah Ramsesses III
Robert Ross retired as a management analyst with the U.S. General Accounting Office in Chicago, moved back to Charleston and currently works as a sexton at Morris Street Baptist Church.
But most people probably recognize him for the distinctive black-and-gold Pharaoh headdress he often wears around town to express his passion for ancient Egypt.
In other words, hes been wearing it long before a 23andMe letter arrived in January analyzing his DNA a letter that would move him to tears and confirm his many years of work.
You share an ancient paternal lineage with Pharaoh Ramesses III, it read. You and Ramesses III share an ancient paternal-line ancestor who probably lived in north Africa or western Asia.
Ross was ecstatic.
When I first read it, I was so happy, and I was just so glad, he said. Then I thought, No wonder Im re-enacting and doing certain things thats sort of unexplainable. Its all part of the gene!
Ross said his passion for ancient Africa began to stir several decades ago, when he visited the King Tutankhamun exhibition in Chicago.
Until then, his impression of Egypt was that it was racially and culturally linked more to Europe than Africa, a perception he said was created by Hollywood stars in movies such as The Ten Commandments.
But when Ross saw King Tuts gold death mask, he said, It was like seeing myself. Something just came over me, and I started crying.

Robert King David Ross commissioned this portrait showing him and King Tut, whose museum exhibit first triggered Rosss passion for all things Egypt.
I took a Masters level "Black Studies" class. We spend fully 70% of the time going over the crack pot propaganda that the ancient Egyptians were really black people, who literally invented everything: furniture, clothes, bandages, metallurgy, astronomy, mathematics, jewelry....you name it.
We watched all 2 1/2 hours of this propaganda film called "Out of Darkness" by someone who calls himself ∆+, which he says is also "translated" as Amadeuz Christ.
Here is a trailer of the film: Out of Darkness: A Film by ∆+ (Official Trailer #2)
About an hour of the film is this "Egyptians Were Black" cult theory.
People can dismiss this "We Wuz Kangz" stuff as comical (and in many ways it is), however, I will tell you that those who peddle and believe this nonsense are DEAD SERIOUS about it. Any disagreement with their crack pot theories are vehemently and aggressively challenged.
Most serious scholars will tell you that the ancient Egyptians were genetically much closer to Armenians or other peoples from southern Europe.
Ramses II, who this wack job thinks he is related to, had red hair.
Fair warning: if you ever find yourself in a debate with the adherents of the "Egyptians Were Black!" crowd, steel yourself. Then end of that film I mentioned actually says that black people are gods, and that once the white people are destroyed the "gods" will take over humanity.

The Egyptians took black Africans as slaves. At one time Nubians, who were black, briefly ruled Egypt.

And, I’m related to several men who fought in the Civil War. You don’t see me dressing up in...hey, is there a reenactment later this month?
So if the black people are gods why aren’t they taking care of us rather than sitting around as welfare queens?
Why don’t they strive to become highly educated?
Black Israelite propaganda is similar, and has taken over many Christian blacks.
I’ll answer that with an Irish proverb: it doesn’t matter how tall your grandfather was, you still have to do your own growing.

Does he Walk like an Egyptian?
I’ll bet he was Born in Arizona and moved to Babylonia, funky Tut.
I tried 23 & Me to find that I am a descendant of Niall of the Nine Hostages, an ancient Irish King. I suspect that so are about half of the people in Ireland. I am not awaiting coronation.
If true....that being the key phrase....if true, both his “pre-cognition” belief and then the 23&Me confirmation decades later speaks to genetic memory.
Casual observation over my life and my own personal experiences indicate to me that genetic memory is much greater than just the basic drives and instincy
As to race, there has been enough race mixing over the millennium that his Pharaoh DNA may have come from the Berber or Portuguese slave trader that raped his great great great great grandmother OR the slave master doing likewise....but, he claims “he knew” before “he knew”.
American blacks are on average only 72% or so, well, er black.
No reparations for him. Come to think of it, he may owe me.
Also mathematically, everyone with a speck of Spanish blood is a descendant of Muhammad. (Spain was Islamic for more than 700 years.)
Of course he's related to Ramesses III.
Ramesses III lived over 3000 years ago.
Not sure that this is a bigger deal than my relationship to Charlemagne and Muhammad. I'm not going to start walking around wearing a crown or carrying a scimitar in any case.
Theennnnn, what you are saying there was a whitey in the woodpile???
There was a study or some lawsuit that said the DNA results from various commercial entities like Ancestry et al are mostly fake, completely wrong, or misleading.
This guy got scammed - no doubt he had said something previously about being related to an Egyptian pharaoh and they just made his wishful thinking come true.
“Ramesses lived to be ninety-six years old, had over 200 wives and concubines, ninety-six sons and sixty daughters, most of whom he outlived.” https://www.ancient.eu/Ramesses_II/
In any case, Ramesses II was Pharaoh during the Egyptian New Kingdom. All the glory and knowledge of the Egyptian Old Kingdom had been long forgotten for a 1,000 years - in other words, they could not build the Pyramids at Giza or any of the other amazing artifacts. Mostly Ramesses when around fighting various battles with his enemies. His only noteworthy accomplishment was his long life.
His G,G,G,G,G,G,G,G,g,G,G,G,granma was a slave concubine to the Pharaoh. Her line, being genetically inferior, was enslaved again and brought to America
Sound cooler to be related to King Tut.
Not sure that this is a bigger deal than my relationship to Charlemagne and Muhammad. I’m not going to start walking around wearing a crown or carrying a scimitar in any case.

aw...go ahead!
