Former Miss Teen Universe Lotte van der Zee died on Wednesday, two weeks after having a heart attack while on vacation with her parents. She was 20.
The Dutch model’s death was confirmed by her parents on Thursday, in an emotional Instagram postthis link opens in a new tab shared on her personal account.
“Our pearl, our everything passed away on Wednesday evening March 6th at 22:47. It is incredibly surreal that our dearly beloved Lotte is not around us anymore. Our hearts are truly broken 💔,” her parents, Bert van der Zee & Eugeniek van het Hul, wrote, alongside two smiling photos of their child.
Thanking all of their daughter’s friends and fans for their support, they wrote, “We would like to thank you all again for all the support and heartwarming messages.”
Lotte was crowned as Miss Teenager Universe in 2017.

I have 30 year old nephews and I tell them they’re babies :)

I had a close friend die at 16 from an undiagnosed heart defect - one that kills countless athletes suddenly and unexpectedly when they are in the prime of health and fell great.
He had HCM.
Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). In this usually inherited condition, the walls of the heart muscle thicken. The thickened muscle can disrupt the heart’s electrical system, leading to fast or irregular heartbeats (arrhythmias), which can lead to sudden cardiac death.
Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, although not usually fatal, is the most common cause of heart-related sudden death in people under 30. It’s the most common identifiable cause of sudden death in athletes. HCM often goes undetected.
HCM is most often diagnosed in the young during an autopsy from what I understand.
No drugs are involved, these kids are usually dedicated athletes in great health - otherwise.

- on an expensive vacation
- lives a fast paced jet set life
- parents and her have money
- very body looks oriented, to stay thin
- still in ‘young dumb and immortal’ phase of life
Obvious plausible conclusion, is enough alcohol and drugs from the partying the night before to kill her.
