Former Miss Teen Universe Lotte van der Zee died on Wednesday, two weeks after having a heart attack while on vacation with her parents. She was 20.
The Dutch model’s death was confirmed by her parents on Thursday, in an emotional Instagram postthis link opens in a new tab shared on her personal account.
“Our pearl, our everything passed away on Wednesday evening March 6th at 22:47. It is incredibly surreal that our dearly beloved Lotte is not around us anymore. Our hearts are truly broken 💔,” her parents, Bert van der Zee & Eugeniek van het Hul, wrote, alongside two smiling photos of their child.
Thanking all of their daughter’s friends and fans for their support, they wrote, “We would like to thank you all again for all the support and heartwarming messages.”
Lotte was crowned as Miss Teenager Universe in 2017.

I had a friend find out he had a potentially deadly heart condition in his 20s. Doctor said it had been there all his life very likely.
Sorry but you really have to wonder if this was diet pill induced perhaps mixed with other medications prescribed or otherwise.

Was she anorexic or have other eating / diet-drug issues? Regardless, what a shame.
Yep, one can wonder all they want. Sometimes the answer is right in front of their nose but they ignore it..Heart defect resulting in death.

I see in her bio she stood 5’10” and weighed 120 lbs.
With the ‘lifestyle’ she led (or that her parents chose for her), that would include forms of bulimia, starvation, purging at every opportunity, and a team of enablers demanding she stay razor thin or else, is what likely shortened her life. Van Der Zee was blessed with remarkable beauty no question, the price to remain a beauty ‘champion’ was too high.
She didn’t look anorexic, but it brings up the fact that if Karen Carpenter and Mama Cass had just split that sandwich they both would still be alive today.
Womdering if it might have been altitude sickness, or she just had a previously undetected heart condition or some combination
Very sad, the pageants do recognize young women who are talented and generous as well as beautiful

Heart attack usually implies the blockage of an artery. This was cardiac arrest, and most likely an arrhythmia.
One of my friends daughters had heart problems when she was 19. She played on the high school volleyball and was very athletic. She started vomiting after a game and they rushed her to the hospital, she was in emergency surgery 1/2 hour later. She had a congenital heart defect that she was born with. Fortunately, she made a full recovery and has two beautiful children.
According to her family it came on as a sudden illness the day before which led to a coma and hospitalization from which she sadly never recovered.
I have read that the ideal weight for a girl 5’ tall is 100 pounds. Then you should add 5 pounds for every inch over.
At that rate she was about 20 pounds too skinny.
