Hillary Clinton blames gutting of Voting Rights Act for her 2016 loss

SELMA, Ala. — Speaking Sunday at the historic Brown Chapel A.M.E. Church, former Secretary of State, First Lady, and 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton suggested a key Supreme Court decision may have cost her the White House.(snip)

“I was the first person who ran for president without the protection of the Voting Rights Act and I will tell you, it makes a really big difference,” Clinton said.

Clinton prefaced her comments by discussing the history of the Voting Rights Act, which was passed in 1965. The law required federal oversight of voting in nine southern states and an array of other jurisdictions that were found to have engaged in discriminatory practices. Clinton noted the law was reauthorized by Congress in 2006 while she was in the Senate.

“It was based on thousands and thousands of pages of testimony as to why we ... needed the Voting Rights Act. I thought it was a done deal, passed out of the Congress, signed by a Republican president, and then it found its way to the Supreme Court,” Clinton recounted.

Clinton said Republicans who wanted to “pull back rights” were behind the legal challenge that brought the 2013 Supreme Court decision, in which conservative justices struck down the core of the law.

“They found a receptive Supreme Court who came up with the most absurd decision,” said Clinton, adding, “They gutted the Voting Rights Act.”(snip)

“It doesn’t just make a difference in Alabama and Georgia. It made a difference in Wisconsin where the best studies that have been done said somewhere between 40,000 and 80,00” thousand people were turned away from the polls because of the color of their skin, because of their age, because of whatever excuse could be made up to stop a fellow American citizen from voting,” Clinton said.

Right, it was discrimination at the polls. For sure. Minority voters not deigning to show up at the polls for a crooked fat white woman like they did for a minority democrat candidate had absolutely nothing to do with it. Obviously.

I know I’m late to the aprty, and not many will see this, but...

As a Southerner, and more specifically an Alabamian, I take great offense at this LIE.

NOT ONE black person was denied a vote in 2016 due to non-enforcement of the Votings Right Act.

The Act is no longer needed, because anyone over 18 in Alabama without a felony conviction or currently committed to a mental institution can vote if they wish.

Period, end of case, end of statement, that is all.

SHE LIES.

LOCK. HER. UP.!!!!

The picture you posted of Hillary was a stock photo from long ago. "Hillary" had a purple blouse on Sunday at the historic Brown Chapel A.M.E. Church

This is her video March 3 2019.
Note: That lady is about 40 to 50 years old. 4:12 her hands.
Hillary according to her bio is 72 yo in Oct this year.

Now look at Hillary on Feb 2 2019. This lady looks much older: https://twitter.com/HillaryClinton/status/1093302041026408448/photo/1

She’s got more reasons for losing than vote totals.

I’m pretty sure that Wisconsin is not a southern state, and was not subject to restraints of the Voting Rights Act

The Voting Rights Act has nationwide provisions - which were untouched by the courts - and "special provisions" that applied to only certain (mostly southern) jurisdictions, Wisconsin not among them.

I live in the deepest part of the South....I always vote...our demographics in my city are 52% black...I have never even slightly smelled any voter suppression....It’s all orderly, quiet and simple. The volunteers are black and white....it’s funny how in the Deep South we all pretty much get along..sure may have been different in the past but i am 53 years old and i haven’t seen a thing or any news report that even the slightest suppression has gone on in my lifetime...How is that?

IF the state of Wisconsin has 40,000 to 80,000 illegal invaders who ere trying to vote, my state of birth has truly badly declined.
