You can find this little fun word game, to combat early dementia and senility in us baby boomers, in several daily publications, unfortunately they are copyrighted so we can't use them here. So, we're just going to make up our own.
The way it works is a letter stands for another letter.
For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).
Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated.
PLEASE DO NOT post the answer in general comments, but DO post your time and any tips you might give the group on how you solve these puzzles. Puzzle solvers love to hear if you found the CG challenging or easy.
You can certainly send your solution to my private reply, or if you need a hint for todays Cryptogram.
Solving the puzzle under 8 minutes is good, under 6 very good, under 4 excellent and under two "you're a pro!"
Those of you looking for an added challenge can try to solve one sentence or even one word at a time, i.e. solve the entire first line, then go to the second line etc.
If you need a little help you can copy the cryptogram and paste it to Hals Helper below:
You can then work on the puzzle without using pen and paper.
Solution to our last puzzle:
THE IDEAS DICTATE EVERYTHING. YOU HAVE TO BE TRUE TO THAT OR YOURE DEAD. DAVID LYNCH
I dont know if these are getting easier or you guys and gals are getting better. Many of you got this one quickly.
This is another Arkansas Cryptoquote. So, you lopped off the official "National puzzle of the day". In reality, this was NOT as easy as it looks, but for someone with a little experience you recognized the first word THE, and that gave you a boat load of Es (one in almost every word of the puzzle), and then everything fell into place
like watching a punt return for a touchdown.
They aren’t getting easier and I’m not getting better. I still only get every other one. LOL
That took seven minutes of tinkering with the three-letter word after the comma. Finally, I got the right one, took a guess at a double letter, and was off and running.
And worth the trouble to boot.
First of all thank you for posting these!
I believe after solving this and verifying the quote, that the first name attributed to this quote in the cryptogram is incorrect. Crypto for the first name should be: “DZJW”
You are correcto-mundo!!!!! I lifted this from the Arkansas Gazette. I think they had the author right, and it was my mistake.
Thank you!
And the analogy being?
“Got into this puzzle from the start. All the words fit into place. It was like cutting down a tree?”
No worries. I really appreciate your efforts to post these every day and I’m sure many others do as well!!!
Ozymandias Ghost was quick to pick up that the posted author’s “first” name is incorrect.
It should be DZJW
You want to be on our Cryptogram ping list?
Stumped!
Hahahah!!!!!
all I have to say is, that you go with your instincts, and locate the “E”....It’s down hill from there, but YES this one is a tuffy.
Absolutely ...thx!
Phew, a tough one, but finally “done and dusted”.
That’s the first conjunction I think of when doing these. After intuiting the letter B in the puzzle, I took a guess at the 6th word, and that confirmed the conjunction for me.
I went at it with some pauses inbetween and finally got it...whew! No real time to post.
This was hard to get started, but came together after Some thought on the common letters in the three letter words. About 15 minutes.
