Nice here and in the mid 60s. They started raising the water level late yesterday and it’s already almost back to normal. Lots of folk are mad they didn’t leave it down long enough or lower it enough to get all the debris out after the Oct. flood. There’s so much still out there and it’ll be a miracle boaters and skiers don’t get hurt this summer. Of course, the water authority hasn’t done a thing about the debris. Anything that has been done has been by the property owners so it’s not like we have the proper equipment. There’s a new big island just down from where the bridge collapsed that formed from the sand being washed down. It will be just below the surface... sigh.

Thankfully, someone lit a fuse under the state so they’re zooming along with the new bridge. The water level should have been taken down to the bottom to help quicken the bridge construction.

Yes, it could have been taken down before the flood. But NOOOOOOO. It’s 60 foot by us and back in the 70s, they lowered it to just a little stream and we could walk across to the other side. That was when some water authority moron decided to bring in helicopters to spray poison to kill off the bad fish. Sure, like poison knows which is the good fish and which is the bad fish. Hey, what’s a bad fish? Of course, people’s drinking water wells got poisoned so everyone got sick. All hail, the government!

Obama should not ditch physical documents at his presidential library

Good point and a taste of what is to come as digital records increasingly replace books and actual physical documents.

"Historians have rightly criticized the digital-only plan, arguing that it would limit research."

How long before some democrat gets the idea of making it illegal to digitize books and other documents they don't like or approve of?

It will happen.

It won't be long before attempts are made to prevent books they label as "hate" from being made available in digital form.

Anything they consider racist, homophobic, anti-Islamic or critical of politicians will be easy to bury as fewer and fewer people access primary source material.

As in 1984, digitization will make it easy to centrally control the information available to the masses.

How many new-generation young people already get all or most of their news and information in digital form?

New SCOTUS decision regarding 9th circuit.

Summary: Judge Reinhardt died while in office. All the cases he participated in prior to death, the 9th circuit released rulings on with his name. SCOTUS ruled what they did was unlawful. A bunch of 2017 and 2018 cases are being send to other districts. The list is long, see attached pdf that has all the cases.

Wow—Ninth Circuit smacked down again.

Read the SC opinion—it was very interesting.

The decision hinged on a long standoing practice that judges can change their minds right up to the moment a decision is released. Therefore, the Ninth Circuit made an invlaid claim when it stated that even though a judge had died, the final vote had been taken and was immutable and could not be changed. Wrong.

Here is the judgment:

“Because Judge Reinhardt was no longer a judge at the
time when the en banc decision in this case was filed, the
Ninth Circuit erred in counting him as a member of the
majority. That practice effectively allowed a deceased
judge to exercise the judicial power of the United States
after his death. But federal judges are appointed for life,not for eternity.

We therefore grant the petition for certiorari, vacate the
judgment of the United States Court of Appeals for the
Ninth Circuit, and remand the case for further proceedings consistent with this opinion.

It is so ordered.”
