A couple of things to keep in mind. Smollet wrote a personal check for the commission of a crime.

Candidate Trump wrote a personal check to his personal lawyer to reimburse him for a personal expense. If Donald Trump wanted to pay off a nuisance claim during his campaign to spare himself the grief of dealing with Stormy Daniels...that's his entirely legal, understandable and justified prerogative.

Also note, Cohen said he was paid by DJT with a personal check. Not a campaign check. That kind of kills the campaign finance angle doesn't it?

I am trying to remember, but can’t quite. Way back when it first came out - someone reported that Cohen was the one that had the relationship with the hooker - not POTUS. Potus had Cohen on retainer when he wrote the check. Can’t remember the rest.
