Democratic Pollster Patrick Caddell, who was credited with helping get Jimmy Carter elected president, but also with limiting him to one term, died Saturday from complications of a stroke at his home in Charleston, S.C., The New York Times reports. He was 68.
Caddell, a self-taught pollster, was considered instrumental in Carter's victory in 1976, but he also persuaded the president to make the speech that became known as the "malaise" speech that branded him as weak and ended up costing him the 1980 election to Republican Ronald Reagan.

What did he know about the Clinton and when did he recently learn of it?
Pat always looked like he slept in the trunk of his car, I liked him and I will miss him.
Just damn. I really liked that guy. Fair, intelligent. Played it straight.
We are right there with everyone who posted here.
Never understood the Clinton connection, but he truly had Common Sense, and applied it in subsequent years.
Will truly miss him.
I am with you. I will miss him. Prayers up.
BS, if he were honest he would have changed parties. He just found a niche to make big money, playing both sides.

Sure seems like he did it in an honest manner to me.
No he was old school Democrat.
I tried to watch him on Fox whenever he appeared with Doug Shoen and John leboutillier. Pat appeared older than 68. RIP.
RIP Mr Caddell!
Always enjoyed his commentary. He sure never seemed to be much of a Democrat.
And a pox on Hannity for all the times he talked over Pat, who usually was the only one with anything interesting to say.
Easily Likeable!
Besides Billy was in my platoon @ITR!

I have to wonder if Patrick is being shown as much respect on the left as he’s receiving on the right.
I was just wondering a few days ago why we don’t see him on news programs anymore.
Rest in Peace Pat Caddell, I always liked him so much, he seemed very smart, down to earth and not a BS artist.
One of the rare democrats that seemingly didn’t despise America. RIP, Pat.
Maybe he was a real Democrat? And in his position thought he could bring some sanity to the Dems...just a thought.
Disagree, he was an old style Democrat that was reasonable and I think the reason he did not change parties was that he held out hope saner people would emerge and make things better.
It did not happen and the party moved even further left. make me wonder if Pat voted for Trump.
If people like Caddell were in charge then we could have reasonable talks and find some common ground to agree on. Now that cannot ever happen unless there is a backlash and shift toward the center again and I just don’t think that is possible.
Pat was great to listen to and was one of the best I have seen when it came to spotting a trend or calling an election.
We lost a good man and one of the last honest Democrats around. RIP.
Hear hear
What did he have on Hillary? /sarc>
