Democratic Pollster Patrick Caddell, who was credited with helping get Jimmy Carter elected president, but also with limiting him to one term, died Saturday from complications of a stroke at his home in Charleston, S.C., The New York Times reports. He was 68.
Caddell, a self-taught pollster, was considered instrumental in Carter's victory in 1976, but he also persuaded the president to make the speech that became known as the "malaise" speech that branded him as weak and ended up costing him the 1980 election to Republican Ronald Reagan.

I always liked Caddell, he was a good pollster and pretty much Center Right in Politics, at least I thought so. He was very good at calling elections and he will be missed.
He did not like where the Democrat Party went and wasn't afraid to say so. I would imagine the party going so far left was not what he felt was the thing to do.
Good guy and I always liked his analysis and commentary.
The last readonable Democrat.
REASONABLE
very sad ... Pat was one of the last good Democrats ...
I agree, he was along with Senator Zell Miller of Georgia.
RIP. I always liked him. He detested what the Democrat Party has become.
Agreed. He was the kind of Dem that my grandfather was and when I heard Pat speak his positions reminded me of him.
Sad to read this. One of the last old-fashioned liberals.
At least he won’t be around to see what a nut farm his party has become.
I always respected Caddell. Yes he was a Democrat but philosophy wise seemed to be centrist unlike today’s pyschoRats. Deep down I think he was for America instead of its destruction.
He was one of the few honest people in politics.
Another good Democrat was Henry M. Scoop Jackson.
A loss for the country.
RIP
Rest in Peace. Last sane Democrat left in the party.
Yep. Sad news about Caddell. RIP.
No shit. Him, Mark Penn and Doug Schoen are old school type democrats who you could actually be friends with and come to mutually agreeable understandings. He has been very good on talk shows the last couple of years. Democrats figured out a way to bump him off just like Andrew Breitbart.
R.I.P, Pat.
A good man, that early end is unfortunate for him, his family and all of us.
Perhaps the last decent Democrat on the planet. Well, let’s be charitable and say ‘one’ of the last decent Democrats.
He was decent because his fealty was to America first, and partisanship last.
RIP: When I heard him speak I always believed what he had to say, or at least I believed that he believed what he said. So sorry he’s gone.
Sorry to hear that. He always struck me as honest and good-natured.
[ He was one of the few honest people in politics. ]
He dies, evil crones like Ginsburg and Hillary seem to live forever somehow despite numerous medical issues....
“Only the good die young”... sadly seems to be true in this world...
