Rep. Omar Laments Low Pay of McDonald’s Employees Who Work ‘40 Hours a Day’

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D.-Minn.) said in a Thursday morning hearing of the House Education and Labor Committee that the Chief Executive Officer of McDonald’s gets paid $21.8 million a year while the median earnings for workers at the restaurant chain “who put in 40 hours a day” is $7,000 per year.

The hearing was examining the possibility of lifting the federal minimum wage to $15 per hour.

On Thursday evening, Omar tweeted out a video clip of her talking at the hearing about McDonald’s workers who put in “40 hours a day.”

I have learned in six decades of living that the ARE stupid people who are incapable of doing more than simple service jobs. There are also people who take the same jobs...and move up or on, depending how much intelligence, drive, and skill they have. Then, you have "organizers" who make money by virtue-signaling their way along, and banging the "$15-an-hour" drum. And let me tell you, I LOVE walking into a McDonalds, keying my order into a kiosk, putting my order in front of all the sheep in line and stuck in the drive through, and being gone with the wind. FORCING business to pay overpriced labor means "Oh LOOK! Eliminate human jobs!"

I don’t know what all McDonalds pay but I saw one from the road yesterday down in Parker, Colorado advertising for help and the starting wage was $13 an hour.

At 40 hours a day, they are probably putting in about 468 hours a week, all 83 weeks a year. So, at 39,000 hours a year...

I know that some restaurants are permitted to pay waiters and waitresses below minimum wage because of tips. Who tips at McDonald’s? Those are some cheap customers looking to buy a meal for $0.99.
