German carmaker Audi is being ridiculed online after revealing its latest electric car model: the Audi e-tron.
As was swiftly discovered by francophones around the globe, 'e-tron' is very similar to the French word 'ètron'.
It is therefore unlikely that Frenchmen will be rushing to their local cardealers to purchase the new Audi, as 'ètron' means 'excrement' or 'turd'.
Audi promises that the e-tron will usher in 'a new era of electric'.
It writes on its website that the car is 'the only electric SUV built with Audi DNA,' adding: 'This is electric done the Audi way.'
However, as reported by Inquisitr, social media users were quick to point out the unfortunate meaning of the car's name in French. 'Apparently nobody at Audi speaks French!,' one person tweeted in disbelief. Another pondered if 'maybe Audi picked the name intentionally after all', while one joked that it was 'the most expensive pile of s*** on wheels'.

Let’s see if I can win the “geezer” prize:
In the early ‘60s I worked for a New York ad agency’s Miami branch. The story was that “Big John Chili” was about to expand their sales into Canada, and thought they’d capture a bit more of the Quebec market if the label was also in French. So the cans were subtitled “Gros Jean Chili”. Trouble is, that’s a slang French Canadian expression:
“Big Tit Chili”
It should go over well in San Francisco.
The Audi 100LS was probably a bigger etron.
What the Hell is that ???
Reminds me of Chevy Nova sales in Mexico.
***********
That was my thought too ,, Chevy was always a distant #2 to Fords Falcon ,, they meaning of No Va is “no go” but they never made the connection or bothered to change the name...
I you buy one of these Audis make sure you get the extended warranty..
************
It’ll probably be Audi’s most reliable model without the complicated turbo engines with bad electronics...
The way to avoid warranty problems on an Audi (or BMW) is to buy a Toyota or Hyundai.
"emm" "err" "deux"
"mere-deux"
"merde"
“The childs name was LaTrine”
I have known a couple of ladies named LaTrinas over the years and I think one of them was from New Orleans. I do not know if if that is where you’re from but your username suggests it might be.
Reminds me of the MR2. In French “Merdeux” or , “Sh!tty”
They needed to name it the MR Sport(if)
Seems lots of things translate to poop in french.
I’m in Michigan
Still a good story
You have to look up words in ALL languages to see if it’s bad in ONE of them. Actually, you’re screwed before you start, since certain middle-easterners will claim you’re insulting their god no matter what you say.
Yep.
Jaguar has the E-pace SUV, but it’s not electric. The Jaguar electric SUV is called the I-pace. Go figure.
Buy an Audi e-tron...now with corn or peanut options.
“Cheap, fast, and easy”
LOL!
Looks like Chinese coffee.

Actually they could have named it “Mist”. Sounds good until it is realized that mist is the German word for horse manure. Still Mist sounds like a good name for it.
