5 Causes of Infertility that (Almost) No One Talks About
Natural Womanhood ^ | February 1, 2019 | Margaret Brady

Infertility is a part of life for 1 in every 8 couples in the United States. Most people know that risk factors like age and tobacco use can make having a baby difficult, yet, there are young, tobacco-free families who struggle to get pregnant in every community. Because knowledge is critical in safeguarding your reproductive health, here are five causes of infertility you may never have heard of.

1. LEEP Procedures

If you’ve ever had an abnormal Pap smear, you may have heard of LEEP (Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure). With this treatment, doctors use an electrically heated wire loop to cut abnormal cells off the cervix. This works very well to protect a woman from cervical cancer. If she gets pregnant afterward, however, it also increases her risk of a devastating second-trimester miscarriage or premature birth.

There are other methods to treat suspicious cells, like cryotherapy, which may have fewer fertility risks. But depending on how abnormal your tests are, those treatments may not make you and your doctor feel confident enough that you’ve stopped cancer in its tracks. If you’re ever in this position, make sure your provider knows about your plans for your fertility so she can balance all the goals of treatment.

2. Abortion

It’s a common myth that terminating a pregnancy can’t cause infertility. Even Planned Parenthood’s website confidently reassures patients that having an abortion “[doesn’t] affect your fertility.” Meanwhile, the National Infertility Association, RESOLVE, encourages women concerned about getting pregnant to be sure to tell their doctor if they’ve had two or more abortions. The Association’s website says that’s because terminations are associated with Fallopian tube disease, which itself is a factor in 20% of infertility cases.

I’m surprised they don’t mention age. Fertility declines in both men and women with age.

A woman could be perfectly healthy and fertile, but, if her husband is significantly older, they may have trouble getting pregnant.

Also, if she has put off even thinking about starting a family because of career or other reasons in her fertile 20s, she may find difficulties in her 30s, when she would have easily gotten pregnant a decade earlier.

I know biological facts are stubborn and some people don’t want to talk about it. But people really should think about how long they are going to put off trying to have children.

Tobacco use?

A large percentage of the mothers that gave birth to the Boomers smoked——smoking didn’t seem to make them infertile.

Interesting:

In one small 2015 study, naproxen (often sold in the United States under brand name Aleve) lowered ovulation rates by 75%. Ibuprofen has been shown to have a similar fertility-reducing effect in men.

In my experience, every man I've met has trouble getting pregnant. In fact, I have never yet met a pregnant man.

Too many women in my generation bought into the Feminst meme ‘you can have children even in your 40’s’. Many of us had trouble carrying children in our 30’s. A friend Resident Dr once asked me if I wanted children and I said of course. He said ‘don’t leave it too late’. I thank God every day that I was able to have one child. Many miscarriages after that in my late 30’s. Feminists ruined many women’s chances of children. But many of us didn’t know better and were swept up in the infancy of the Feminist movement. Happy I awakened to the lies. Sad that I didn’t awaken earlier than I did.

They do mention age, in the first paragraph.

The various other factors, like multiple abortions, long-time use of hormonal contraceptives, and treatments for cervical cancer, would not be big factors if the woman had her kids in her youth, in her 20’s, the way she was designed.

The whole trend of delaying marriage and kids until after secure in her career, does not bode well for the long-term viability of the middle-class. Women SHOULD find a good husband in their late-teens/early-20s. Being married is NOT incompatible with being in college. Then have your babies. Go to work, if you really want to, when the kids are older and in school.

Good. In that case, I’m gonna keep wearing TW’s, because at 51, I probably shouldn’t be trying to have kids, anyhow.

Let’s face it, the traditional idea that the husband works and provides, the wife is a stay-at-home mom, and children are given economically significant roles working (on the farm - most people were farmers) was optimal for population growth. The sons learned farming and/or trades/professions, and the daughters - having been mentored by their mothers in the homemaking role from infancy - were capable of starting a new generation while in their (not-so-late, in many cases) teens.

In that scenario the sons became ready to take on the responsibility of fatherhood at a later age than the daughters became ready to take on the role of motherhood - so men married younger women. That scenario obviously obviously influenced Roy Moore . . .

Back in the mid-1950s, virtually all the girls who graduated high school were married within a year. And some didn’t wait that long to marry. In that scenario the wife, being junior in age, was also likely to be considered junior in decision making as well. Women who worked were teachers or nurses or secretaries. Schools were better back then for the simple reason that women had so few opportunities apart from teaching that the supply of competent woman teachers was more plentiful than the salaries teachers were able to command would otherwise have warranted.
