The magnetic pole is moving so quickly that it has forced the worlds geomagnetism experts into a rare move.
On 15 January, they are set to update the World Magnetic Model, which describes the planets magnetic field and underlies all modern navigation, from the systems that steer ships at sea to Google Maps on smartphones.
The most recent version of the model came out in 2015 and was supposed to last until 2020 but the magnetic field is changing so rapidly that researchers have to fix the model now.
The problem lies partly with the moving pole and partly with other shifts deep within the planet. Liquid churning in Earths core generates most of the magnetic field, which varies over time as the deep flows change. In 2016, for instance, part of the magnetic field temporarily accelerated deep under northern South America and the eastern Pacific Ocean.
Whats happening?
First, that 2016 geomagnetic pulse beneath South America came at the worst possible time, just after the 2015 update to the World Magnetic Model. This meant that the magnetic field had lurched just after the latest update, in ways that planners had not anticipated.
Second, the motion of the north magnetic pole made the problem worse. The pole wanders in unpredictable ways that have fascinated explorers and scientists since James Clark Ross first measured it in 1831 in the Canadian Arctic. In the mid-1990s it picked up speed, from around 15 kilometres per year to around 55 kilometres per year. By 2001, it had entered the Arctic Ocean where, in 2007, a team including Chulliat landed an aeroplane on the sea ice in an attempt to locate the pole.
In 2018, the pole crossed the International Date Line into the Eastern Hemisphere. It is currently making abeeline for Siberia.

Thank you. Yours were the posts I’d been waiting for thinking I should post them myself. I believe you both may be right.
Nibiru
Psst. I've also never seen "Caddyshack", plus, I don't even drink.
Perfect
I laughed my fat little butt off when I first saw it, so I stole it. :^)
While transiting from Alaska Southbound we crossed over the Explorer Seamount on my watch. I noticed the magnetic compass take a pretty strong swing when we were right over it, then swing back shortly after.
Time for a pole flip
Massive shift to the left is like everyone running to the same side of a boat. It’s the idiot democRats. The only fix is a new Magnetic Pole Bureaucracy and massive tax increases.
SAGA Magazine back in 1968-69 predicted the magnetic poles would shift and the crust of the earth would float around and no one knew where the USA might then land up when the poles reestablished themselves!
The illustrations showed NYC buildings collapsing!
Wiki: Magnetic Declination. This was an issue in an old court case of mine, related to old (Centuries) surveying work. This isn’t a new thing.
#2. Well, the Left will charge it to Trump’s “Magnetic Personality” which they hate but want to use to blame everything on.
Secondly, the Earth is suffering from “Heart Burn”, aka “magmatic gas”. That leads to a big BM deep within the bowels of the Earth which moves the magnetic poles outward and upward.
Lastly, maybe Gaia or God is just playing with us. Might as well sit back and enjoy the ride. This could play havoc with planned “magnetism” railways. You’d get on a train in California and end up going across the Bering Straits over the water to Inner Siberia. Be sure to pack and extra pair of socks.
Why, that's downright un-American!
“What do you make of this?”
Your gauss is as good as mine.
Plan on a bit of shaking in the future.
Clearly the Earth being flat to many Chinese and Indians being born have caused the world to tilt causing the molten layer to all run to one side.
Both of you imho are correct. (In a layman’s way of speaking). The actual source of the magnetic field isn’t a mystery - just why their model is so far off.
The problem isn’t with the earth - it is with their model. Obviously many things on earth are cyclical. Some can me “modeled” very precisely - like the sunrise, beginning of spring, and when Haley’s comet will appear.
Other cyclical things aren’t so easy to predict - such as climate change and the magnetic pole wandering.
