I have had it. I just watched the latest episode of "The Orville".
But this latest episode, "Primal Urges" pissed me off to NO end.
Let's forget the overall subject of "gay" porn addiction by a completely non-human species, and the total delve into how that affected the ship and crew...and the clear homosexual overtones.
I cannot let pass the behavior of the sudo-Klingon character of Bortis who stood by and watched a woman say goodbye to her family...husband and son...of which there was a good 30-60 second scene...and our Uber Macho "hero" did NOTHING to save her.
His behavior...given his mission to save as many people as possible from a planet soon to be destroyed by an exploding star...was simply unconscionable. He should have grabbed her and pushed her onto the shuttle with her family and closed the door. A sacrifice? Possibly. But...if necessary...YES.
Yet he chose to save his own sorry ass. Not good.
Maybe I'm wrong. But I would not have hesitated to push her onto the shuttle and then close the doors. That was the mission. Save as many people as possible.
Yes...I know this is fiction and supposed comedy but really? Why would such a feel good, heroic moment be overlooked? Except...by those who JUST DON'T GET IT.
The writers of this show have exposed themselves to be far less than worthy of my viewership. I'm done with this type of BS.
I cannot believe...and I hope...that I am not the only one who noticed this and whose hackles rose while watching this.
Am I too old school? Am I a dinosaur? Are there no others who would have done...oh...I dunno...the RIGHT thing?
I'm sorry. But sometimes...I get pissed.
Is the show about popcorn?
No. The ostensibly "artificial" humanoid...android was already on the craft and could have easily piloted the 30...and possibly 31...people to safety.
You expected them to kill off one of the main characters at the start of the second season?
Tuned in for a minute last night only to see 2 males kissing. Moved on never to return.
Read a book. If you like Sci Fi I recommend Dune.
Can’t argue with that.
I always said Clinton never advanced beyond 14.
I always said Obama never advanced beyond 7.
Watched it and all I could think about is some Family watching it with their Kids and then having to “explain” it.
If it was a Movie rather than a TV Show, it would be rated at least PG-13. At the very least they should have Posted a warning about the subject matter.
They really overdid the Holideck scenes, that’s for sure.
One question, why wasn’t the Creature who gave the guy the new Holideck Porno Program blamed for the Computer Virus?
Im kind of surprised you watched that episode after last weeks Bortis yearly urination ceremony episode, not to mention things from last season.
So you forgave gay porn.
But...good news...I have read that Bezos has ordered his people to create a Dune feature length film...or mini-series of....Ringworld...for Prime. Fingers crossed that we get to see Louis Wu and his Motley Crew. I can't wait to see who plays Teela.
No, you get NO “slack at all AND you posted this drivel to NEWS/ACTIVISM!
Babylon 5 was great.
Ill pass on anything Seth McFarland is in.
Ive only seen a little bit of The Orville. I liked what I saw, but can understand that there could be a lot I wouldnt care for.
Id have to see the episode to render a judgement, but you did right to make it a vanity. This sort of discussion is what vanities were made for, I think.
The closest reference for comparison that I have to your episode is one from The Next Generation where Worf, who had been established by that point in the series that anyone could kick his azz, beat up a gay security guard on some planet. It didnt make Worf look tough so much as make a gay alien look especially frail.
I didnt care for that episode, either, as it was built up to be an episode that was supposed something positive about gays but simply fell flat as a poor episode. Maybe it did say something positive after all, but all my friends and I can remember is that Worf beat up a weak alien in a forgettable Next Generation episode.
That was one of the things that started me on the road to...Oh hell no. Forgave? Not so much. The androgyny was their bypass I suppose. Or so they thought.
Granted, now go over to your TV, turn it off, and throw it out the window.
I think 0bungles made it to 8, DO.
8 is the age when maladjusted boys become the most insufferable smartasses and liars.
Have it deleted by the Admin/Mod if you like.
Note to self- Belated New Year’s Resolution #x- I will make a determined effort to spend my irreplaceable finite discretionary time in a more meaningful way.
