Yeah— Goldwater, a confirmed Libertarian (even more than many of those who claim to be one today— moreso than Rand Paul and his dad)- who was anti-Vietnam war escalation and an Air Force pilot— yes, he was going to “push us to nuclear war” during an era when the Soviets were escalating ICBM production and which followed their placing ICBMS 90 miles from the US, in Cuba== missiles that the commie psychopath Che’ Guevara had literal control of, and wanted to fire them.

Whenever you see someone with a Che’ shirt or some such— always remind them that he WANTED to fire nuclear missiles on the US (and he had the codes to do so, stolen from the soviets, btw). Remind them how much “peace” he wanted— a psychopathic killer who enjoyed shooting little teenage boys, sons of prominent Cuban business leaders— in the head a point blank range while looking them right in the face.

Goldwater would have gotten us OUT of Vietnam faster and better than Nixon. the mil-industrial complex LOVED LBJ constant micro managing (see Pueblo incident) and idiotic “war plan”. Not to mention keeping McNamara at it. Sheesh.

"JFK was the last real Democrat who was tolerable "

Hardly, according to the articles in Human Events at the time. And, of course, the leftist enemedia, including Uncle Walter (the most trusted liar in America) kept us in the dark about the corruption and adulterous lifestyle of the Kennedy mob.

Clinton campaign found the 3 yr old girl that was in the Daisy ad and had her express concern for the future...the ad goes on to hint that as President Trump would be crazy and irresponsible and start a nuclear war.

I was in the 10th grade. We had finished lunch and waiting for 1:00 class to start. A kid who had gone home for lunch came up to a group of us and told that the president had been shot.

Kennedy was not popular in the Florida panhandle and most students seemed happy. After a few minutes the mood changed. I can recall several saying they hoped he didn’t die. Of course he was already dead.

During class the principal came on the intercom and announced he had died. The mood became much more somber. I recall a classmate who was a rare Catholic, weeping.

“If anything, Nixon might have been more reckless in war and more liberal in peace than JFK in 1961.”

As it turned out, Nixon cursed us with such legacies as EPA, OSHA, banning of DDT and god knows what else.

“I recall that day, that whole week vividly.”

I was 23 and in the Air Force at the time. I was/am a rock ribbed conservative/libertarian/republican and no fan of JFK but trust me an incident like this will rattle your cage for a long time. Whole nation came together...for the moment. But damned if the democrats didn’t immediately blame conservative (then) Dallas for it.

Not so sure about rfk. Yet many still hold the bunch up like saints.

I've lived through at least a portion of the Presidencies of 13 Presidents.IMO JFK was neither the best nor the worst President of my lifetime.I must admit that I'm still impressed by "we will support *any* friend, oppose *and* foe" and "let them come to Berlin".

OTOH,Robert Kennedy would have been a horrible, horrible President...every bit as bad as Osama Obama was and every bit as bad as ILLary would have been.

Both Robert and Teddy Kennedy were absolutely despicable, amoral pond scum.

I remember that too. Somehow the city and people of Dallas were supposed to bear guilt for it.

Also Southern conservatives. They wouldn’t just come out and say it but would infer it with such ideas that they had created the atmosphere which allowed it to happen.

Also really went after mail order purchase of guns, ignoring that there was nothing to have kept Oswald from legally going into the local gun shop and buying one.

I was angered to read in one of the gun magazines where some writer had agreed that banning mail order sales was the right thing to do.

“Today, JFK would not bel allowed to be a democrat”

He was a genuine WW2 combat veteran and life member of the NRA. Wouldn’t work with today’s democrats.

I was a 16 year old high school sophomore in study hall when the principal came on over the P.A. system and announced that Kennedy had been shot in Dallas. It was right before lunch and we were immediately dismissed. I drove home and joined my parents in front of the TV. Later that night, my father was in lengthy discussions with some of his fellow businessmen, some Italian-Americans with shady ties. There was a lot of laughter. Later that winter my father and I spent weekends skiing in N.E. PA north of Scranton. Nights we would go to a club owned by Italians and the talk was of JFK and there were no tears shed. One of the club owner’s relatives was a woman who was one of the “slain civil rights workers” down in Mississippi. The family had disowned her when she went over to that side. I remember hearing whispered calls for JFK’s death during and right after the Missile Crisis so I wasn’t surprised in the least.

Hated JFK. He was incredibly flawed - a pig in the same vein as Clinton. The way he’s so revered is insane. Even though I was a teenager when he was elected, I cried. When he died I didn’t care.

It was fun on at Thanksgiving, though, listening to Grandpa doing “color commentary” on all the funeral-related fol-de-rol.

Well, I been hangin’ around since Truman. Got to shake Ike’ s hand as a 2nd grader way back when. So, I’ve been around for a couple too. All the “k’s” after jfk were pretty much useless. And, I do not hold him in high esteem either.

CS Lewis died a few hours before JFK. A much greater presence and a loss deeply felt than JFK’s death.

Yeah, I saw that one program about the theory that the one SS agent accidentally shot JFK when grabbing his rifle to fire back at the 6th floor window. Whoever was up there fired the first two shots, the second hitting Kennedy in the neck and then hitting Connolly (the "magic bullet" theory). The shot to Kennedy's head was the friendly fire from the SS agent rifle.

IDK, think that one has much credibility? People don't talk about it much. Most are either lone gunman or grassy knoll theorists.

During the '64 campaign quite a few of my middle school-aged friends were hating on Goldwater, saying he was crazy because he wanted to "drop bombs" on North Vietnam. Well, about a year later LBJ was dropping bombs on North Vietnam and I asked those same "friends" about it, and why they didn't think Johnson was "crazy" for dropping those bombs on North Vietnam the same as Goldwater said he'd do. IIRC most of the replies were things like "Johnson dropping those bombs was different that Goldwater dropping them". My reply was to ask the people being bombed if it was different. Then I usually got called a name or told to shut up.

See how 'Rat "logic" starts with the younger generation and poisons the young skulls full of mush?

Just who in the “power structure” had JFK killed? The Mafia, the CIA, LBJ, or perhaps some combination of them or other actors. Most assuredly though, unless Oswald did it alone, Jack Kennedy was not killed because he was an anti-communist.

It was America’s coup d’etat. The conspirators and their progeny have pretty much controlled the presidency since then. They have either been a warren commission member, or someone deep within the intelligence community, or one of their straphangers.
