WASHINGTON Say it aint snow! The weather outside really is frightful Thursday, and staying home for a lot of school kids in the Washington area is surely delightful.
But D.C.s first snowfall has created conditions that are cold, wet and dangerous for many commuters. It isnt just snow either. Theres also sleet and freezing rain to contend with.
Check out photos of winters first slap of the season below.
The news this morning said that the last time it snowed here before Thanksgiving was in 1996 (?)
We don’t even get snow very often in December.
Kids stay home from school FOR THAT??!
Weather in DC is a category of Fake National News.
My little hillbilly daughter is mocking them from her office in DC.
Sometimes they announce school closings the night before and it winds up not even snowing. I got a rain day once. :D
One of the issues here is that many people commute to DC from all over. It may be fine in the city, but treacherous to the northwest. It’s also very difficult to predict weather here. I can remember some really bad calls.
And we have an ice storm warning right now in Indiana.
I love driving in DC.
The first flake hits the pavement, and half the cars immediately turn to hit the nearest telephone pole.
Yeah snow is rare in DC in November/December. There was a huge snowstorm in the DC area in November 1987. Not too many more since.
LOL. That pretty much sums it up. :D Everyone else stocks up on canned goods, toilet paper, bread and milk the night before and stays home.
Got to 3 degrees here on the western slope of the Rockies. Little Ice Age is here. School is open of course. This is January weather.
Trump’s fault!.................
That's ridiculous even by Alberta standards.
God always has the last laugh, doesn't He?
Lots of places in Fly Over Country have stretches of nasty commuting weather.
Just because plenty of LSMers live around DC doesn’t make their weather significant National News. Except maybe hurricanes.
We had snow flurries here in SE Texas earlier this week. Yes...you read that right. Snow flurries. Didn’t last long. Didn’t stick...but it snowed in mid-November. Crazy.
Up north we know how to handle snow. Down there it’s not a good thing.
My grandson works at Safeway. He said last night the toilet paper, bread and milk were gone within an hour of his shift. Shoppers coming in later screamed at him and his coworkers about the missing items.
The blizzard of 1979 fortunately had tractorcade. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tractorcade
I saw a good amount of flurries also in SE Texas.
The last couple of years we have gotten around 2 inches of snow in December. Also, the Farmer’s almanac is predicting a much colder and wetter December for our area.
