A 180-pound parachute deployed in just four-tenths of a second -- twice the speed of sound -- setting a new record.

The powerful parachute is needed for the heaviest payload yet to hit the surface of the red planet.

Mars is easy. Just wait until they try it on the Big Guy, by Jove!

Going to need a bigger 'chute!

What kind of drogue did they use?

Rocket-propelled?

Had to have been a propellant involved.

I immediately thought of my toy soldiers and the lines ripping through the plastic chutes because they jerked too much.

Doesn’t seem like there would be much use for a chute in an atmosphere like this

Parachutes have been used quite a bit for Mars probes.

The atmosphere on Mars isn’t as dense as Earth, but there’s at least something. If they can deploy something to slow the mass in Earth’s atmo, it’ll work fine on Mars.

Sort of wild, but there are even plans for gliders that can be used in the very thin Martian atmosphere.

One of these days, the MSM will try to tell you that Mars never existed and it’s a conspiracy theory to say it did. They’ll even brand you as ‘deniers’ and demand your arrest for thinking this way.

Yeah...I’m being silly. But this wouldn’t surprise me. This is who the subversives are and what they do.

What? You think the Martians just sit around playing video games all day?

Maybe a hang glider would be fun?
Some of the volcanoes are 60K feet high; what a ride.

Hang gliding off of Olympus Mons. Cool!

Mars’ thinner atmosphere will require more square feet of chute to slow the payload than it would need here on Earth.

Thanks fieldmarshaldj. Chutes work better than ladders, at least on Mars.
