are these really things people are clamoring to get rid of???
“Cruft.” Never heard that word before. Given the context I am inclined to treat it as a synonym for “crap.”
When they make all their inbuilt spying removable in Win 10, wake me up.
“Sadly, it doesnt seem that Microsofts largesse extends to making the Edge browser uninstallable.”
Simple enough - don’t use it and install Waterfox instead as your goto browser:

“Never 10”

I run that on a regular basis on my Win 7 & 8.1 installs. MS tries to sneak in “upgrade” to Win 10 in Windows updates every now & then. So I run it, at the least, after every regular monthly update.
I suppose they know if you went to the trouble of buying a new PC with 7, you certainly wanted nothing to do with 10.
Cruft is useless stuff, not exactly crap, but more like the lint in your pants pocket that used to be part of the pocket material, or clothes-dryer fluff. Or the random scraps of material that are left over after you whittle down a piece of wood.
Think more like "useless" than like "crap".
I've seen it spelled "kruft" also.
10 was a nightmare for me. Memory hog. Spyware pre-installed. Got slower and slower. I wiped my puter clean and installed Linux. No more MS for me.
Just shut-off the MS Update virus-installer. Eliminates the chance of your entire PC crashing and burning from one of those “patches” that MS rolls out on users to help them de-bug their bloatware.

And when they make updates optional NOT mandatory, wake me up too=- (allowing us complete control over which updates we want- soem updates break things, and users used to be able to wait till the updates were fixed, THEN dload the update-)
When they give us back control over how our start menu looks and functions, (ie like windows 7 or windows xp look and function) wake me up too
If they will do these three things, then yes, it will be an awesome operating system

I thought they stopped that, givign free upgrade, and are now charging users to upgrade?
I’m not sure I have all of those programs.
Snip & Sketch does not seem to be installed.
Other programs, like Paint 3D, are programs that I use. I just used Paint 3D tonight.
Now THAT is what I call good thinking by Dell.
Classic Shell is still working for me - until they break it. I still fight file associations and other nonsense where 10 overrides user choices. FF still the best browser overall.

You can’t choose which updates you’ll take, but you can set Win 10 so that it downloads updates only when you’re ready to do them. (Set Updates to “metered connection”, if you’re not using a PC to wall connection)

I get Win 7 “back” using -
Open-Shell (Formerly Classic-Start)

Thanks. Now I will probably encounter this word several times over the next several days.

Maybe they have by now. But I still wouldn’t trust them - and so I run Never10. MS wants everybody to switch to 10.
