Yale classmate says Kavanaugh misled Congress on his drinking habits

A man who attended Yale University with Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh went on the record on Sunday accusing Kavanaugh of "mischaracterizing" his alcohol consumption during last week's Senate Judiciary Committee hearing.

Chad Ludington in an interview with The New York Times said he saw Kavanaugh "staggering from alcohol consumption" multiple times, describing him as a "belligerent and aggressive" drunk.

"It is truth that is at stake, and I believe that the ability to speak the truth, even when it does not reflect well upon oneself, is a paramount quality we seek in our nation’s most powerful judges,” Ludington said in a statement, according to the Times.

Ludington said Kavanaugh during the hearing downplayed the "degree and frequency" of his drinking. He told the Times that the FBI has asked him to share his story at the bureau's Raleigh, N.C., office on Monday.

It is unclear if his testimony will play a role in the week-long FBI investigation into allegations of sexual assault against Kavanaugh, the Times reported.

Several other classmates in recent days have accused Kavanaugh of misleading Congress over his alcohol consumption. Former FBI Director James Comey in a Times op-ed published Sunday charged Kavanaugh with "lying" under oath.

Kavanaugh throughout the hearing insisted that he has never blacked out or passed out due to alcohol consumption.

Christine Blasey Ford, the woman accusing him of assaulting her in 1982, has said that Kavanaugh and his friend Mark Judge were intoxicated during the incident.

Kavanaugh told outside counsel Rachel Mitchell during the hearing that he has never "passed out" from drinking.

"I’ve gone to sleep," he said. "But I’ve never blacked out, that’s the allegation. And that’s, that’s wrong."

Kavanaugh appeared agitated by questions from Democratic senators about his history with partying and drinking, at one point asking Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) if she has ever blacked out due to alcohol consumption.

"I like beer,” he said in response to one of Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse’s (D-R.I.) questions. “Do you like beer, senator? What do you like to drink?"

He said repeatedly that he likes beer but does not drink heavily.

The FBI probe will last a week and investigate Ford's allegation as well as claims from Deborah Ramirez, who has accused Kavanaugh of exposing himself without her consent during a Yale University party in the 1980s.

Ramirez reportedly spoke to the FBI on Sunday.

College drinking stories?

This is getting ridiculous. I just took a stroll today across the Appalachian State University campus. This is the day after their homecoming game. The campus is littered with coolers, empty beer cans, and empty liquor bottles.

Was there a prohibition enacted that I missed somewhere?

Hey A-hole. His name is Kavanaugh not Kavster. He did nothing wrong and will eventually be confirmed.

'but does not drink heavily.'

Now. Now is important.

If he did in Yale, who cares? If he didn't mistreat women as they say, then who cares? What we need to look out for is a set-up by the C I agency.

Oh, by the way,

Kav doesn’t dare say that himself, he’s already a target for recusals if touchy cases come before the SC - and they will, including cases re: military tribunals for _ _ E A O N

Lawyers aren’t known for asking questions that they don’t already know the answer to. That was a setup for a later charge of perjury. If anyone has evidence of Brett Kavanaugh “blacking-out” from drinking,....... it’s Yale. mho

He’s given a few dollars here and there to Democrat candidates, according to some other stories.

Good.

The only thing he denied is having blackouts, which may or may not involve passing out but either way involves loss of memory over a long stretch of time while intoxicated.

He said he sometimes drank too much.

He said he sometimes did things he wasn’t proud of, but never engaged in sexual assault of any kind.

I highly doubt any of his roommates are really contradicting this. What we have here, I’m sure, is the politically motivated roommates mischaracterizing his testimony as him claiming that he never or very infrequently drank excessively (something he didn’t say, since even “sometimes” is a very subjective term covering a broad range of behaviors) - and then saying that their observations of him show that this is a lie. It isn’t, it’s them turning it into a lie by claiming the judge said something that he did not.

And why do you think Yale would have a record of that? If there was a major disturbance or infraction the campus police might have a record of the incident, but the principal role of ivy league schools regarding disciplinary issues is to provide such parenting as is necessary to get the students from the immature age of 18, safely to the age of 22 upon graduation, where, hopefully high spirits have mellowed into a sober budding professional (unless your name is Kennedy).

They’re scraping the bottom of the barrel now. As we speak how many liberal Snowflake males are getting gassed at Yale this evening, or got wasted last night? Please. Isn’t this the party that reveres one of the greatest lushes in the history of American politics in Edward “I want Moore booze” Kennedy?

He isn’t. He is yapping out of turn. He is now a professor at William and Mary to teach a course on...wait for it...ethical leadership.

Where is the contradiction? Kav said he drank too much at time and fell asleep but never passed our or blacked out.

He was such a problem drinker that he was first in his class.

We've got to report all cases of any Dem politician having ever been drunk. Lie detectors for all sitting justices and members of congress. Also celebrities. None of them could be competent in their jobs and should be fired. /s

from another thread:

“I don’t care what Kav drank in HS, or Yale, it obviously didn’t affect his academic performance, his extraordinary rise in professional and social stature and achievements, and he is obviously not a roaring drunkard, and,

don’t get between Catholics and their dang beer.”

So what now? Will there be others who deny that he was a heavy drinker, belligerent, etc.? This is disheartening. If they can say he lied under oath, he really is toast.
