Old Glory flies triumphantly above Hayden Meadows Elementary.
But, every day at the end of school, three keepers of the flag make sure shes in safe hands.
Fifth graders Naylan Tuttle, Jack LeBreck, and Casey Dolan go through the steps necessary to make sure the U.S. flag is properly folded and stored without it ever touching the ground.
Its a sign of respect, something these boys take seriously.
This is our nation's flag, this is our school's flag, it's how we represent our country, Jack LeBreck said.
Their selfless act has now gone viral; the boys were folding the flag after school Wednesday when a parent snapped a picture.
If you let it touch the ground then you disrespect our country is what I heard, LeBreck said.
But behind every great kid is a mentor and Mac McCarty, the schools custodian, is that man.

Rock on, kids.
Kids being taught about “The American Way”....
Two thumbs up...way to go!
Takes me back quite a few years.
When I was in school it was considered an honor to be chosen to raise and lower the flag before and after school.
Not everyone got the chance.
Exactly.
This photo would probably cause The Mooch to cringe in the corner of the room.
In the sixth grade I was captain of the school patrol.
We raised and lowered the flag and tended the road crossings including a four lane US highway!
;)
We have our House in Southern CA up for sale.
Southwest Idaho is on our short list.
I learned also to respect the flag from our elementary school janitor, by the name of Joe. He was from Italy and bore the scars from the last Great War. It was an honor to raise the flag each morning.
I moved to SW Idaho a few years ago. Best choice I’ve made for me and my family, ever.
Just don’t volunteer that you’re from California! ;) You’re a FReeper, so you should be okay here in Idaho.
Good on them.
Taking us a while to sell the House. Too much inventory on the Market around here.
If I had just listed it three months earlier, oh well...
Flagstaff AZ is also on the short list. My 88 Year Old F-I-L lives in Central CA so my Wife is hesitant to move out of State while he is still alive. He has had some mini Strokes but is still kicking.
We may move closer to him and Rent for a while before my Escape Plan is implemented... Time will tell.
BTW - Your FR Homepage is great. Your take in the 2nd Amendment is right on. #;^)
At my grade school the Safety Patrol raised and lowered the flag every day and the captain and the Deputy did the honors.
In sixth grade I was the Captain so I had the honor to perform flag duties for the entire school year.
“In sixth grade I was the Captain so I had the honor to perform flag duties for the entire school year.”
Okay, I’m officially jealous now!
