I used to take my lunch hour to shop at Staples, Vitamin Shoppe, and CVS. It would be unusual for an aircraft to fly into JWA in that direction.
Im guessing fuel exhaustion. No fire. They were on approach after a 1000 mile flight. Relatively heavy load.
Aircraft was actively for sale and engines both had 1170 hours on a 1600 hour TBO.
Very sad.
Maybe a mile from where I work.
RIP All
KFI reported that the pilot declared an emergency ... I agree with the rest of you, it was likely a fuel issue.
Years ago a plane with five people crashed in Newport Beach on a tennis court coming in for a landing at SNA killing all.
Would think that an onboard computer would calculate the weight carried, the headwinds, the average fuel consumption per minute etc and loudly warn the pilot when he was down to 10 minutes of fuel. Doesn’t such software exist?
How many friends of Hillary aboard?

As long as we’re speculating, I’m guessing with the passenger load he was carrying and the temps at departure, he put on just enough fuel for the trip in order to take off. Ran out of fuel in the pattern at John Wayne and hoped against hope that he had enough altitude to make it to the runway, and never considered landing on a busy street. He stalled and it was over.
Missed the airport by “this much.” A tragedy.
There’s something strange about Navid Hakini, one of the passengers: some articles list them all as realtors and some articles say he went by the name Navid Izadi and was a DJ. Three of the passengers were well known in the Persian community.
