Vogel's fiance, John Michael Keyser, told NorthJersey.com that the chef's "heart gave out" while receiving treatment for colitis at a local hospital. Colitis is a disease which causes inflammation in the digestive tract.
Vogel studied culinary arts at Johnson & Wales. She auditioned for the Gordon Ramsay-hosted show while working at a creperie and bakery in California, NorthJersey.com reported.
She also worked as a pastry chef for chef Christine Nunn at Grange in Westwood. She recently worked as the executive chef of Black Rebel Burger in Hackensack, N.J. before it shut down last year.
"When she set her mind on something there was no way to stop her," the obituary read.
It went on to reveal that Vogel battled issues with alcohol and drugs.
"She recently committed to living a better life and had graduated from an inpatient rehabilitation program with hopes of regaining control of her life," her family stated in the obituary. "Unfortunately, the damage done over the years was too great and she died, like she lived, a fighter."

Women make poor alcoholics.
Seems like a lot of high profile people have been dying lately.
Sad. RIP.
No offense, but this hardly qualifies as high profile.

“Colitis is a disease which causes inflammation in the digestive tract.”
Sounds like what I had for the 8 year reign of Obama terror.
“Women make poor alcoholics.”
Ain’t that the truth.
Its been said only the good die young which scares me - hope I’m not on the flight deck when I go ....LOL
Never heard of any of it
Why are so many “hip” chefs junkies?
You’e a pilot.....and you may be the exception, but generally that automatically knocks you down a couple of notches from “good”. ;)
34? She looked 54, and that’s being charitable.
RIP!
So she was a druggie.
Seems like they are drawn to the kitchen arts, meaning restaurants.
I worked in a restaurant during high school, and drugs were prevalent.
Knowing what I know about that sector, I’d never allow my daughters to do that.
They don’t ever need to know how to fold a bindle/seal for holding cocaine. It would sadden me if they did.
But OTOH ... flying in rough weather with folks in the back praying that we're "good" up front, well then ....
I could never understand why people make such a big deal out of making FOOD “pretty”.
Make it taste good.. and it’s eaten/gone... down the chute to come out the other side :p (and it is no longer “pretty”).
“flying in rough weather with folks in the back praying that we’re “good” up front, well then ....”
That’s where the rubber meet the road..as they say. For any personal faults, this is where the professional earns it. I don’t doubt, in the cockpit you are very good! Otherwise, you wouldn’t be where you are today.
Hell’s Kitchen?? I thought that was in NYC. Actually most large cities use to have areas refereed to as Hell’s Kitchen. Kind of like skid row.
Thanks! :)
I’ve heard it is an occupational hazard.
