The creation of artificially intelligent sex robots that resemble humans has provoked a heated debate about the social and health consequences.
Meanwhile, the market for talking and moving robots made for sexual pleasure is on the rise, with makers from across the world selling them for thousands of pounds.
One implication discussed by experts is their capacity to induce addiction to sex.
Psychological therapist Dr Thaddeus Birchard told Daily Star Online that life-like robots featuring AI could be another outlet for sex addicts to express their compulsion.
Dr Birchard, clinical director of the Marylebone Centre for Psychological Therapies, said a sex addict is comparable to an alcoholic in that theyre seeking escapism.
Although cyborgs might not necessarily increase sex addiction, Dr Birchard said, they serve the same purpose as alcohol for people with drinking issues.
It would just be another way of expressing sexual activity or addiction, Dr Birchard, author of Overcoming Sexual Addiction A Self Help Guide, said.

So you want a robot girlfriend?

(caution: mild profanity and cartoonish sound effects.)
You dont get women, Windy, if you think they need or want a latex dude for personal solitary pleasure! Its more creepy to us than exciting.
Pros & cons.
I doubt know. I think these robots are gonna have to improve significantly before I’d be interested. Maybe to the point they’re impossible to distinguish from the real thing. By then, it’ll be too late for me.
Guess I’ll keep the wife.
Hang on, let me ask my wife.......
.
.
She says No, I don't, but she would like more information on the male model. Said something about "getting her weeds whacked from time to time."
I was only kidding, Yaelle. I've been married to the real thing for 24 years, and know what they like.
Come to think of it, I've known that for far longer ;-)
Naw naw naw, you were sweet and innocent on that wedding night. ;)
(I looked up the male version of those sex robots - I think they were Korean - super super creepy. Like a mannequin)
Yes, yes! Virginal, I was! Such an innocent lad was I, in those days!
(geez, can I lay it on, or what?)
Vibrators, sybians, all of those are one hundred percent genuine sex robotsm and women have been buying them for decades, and even developed a multilevel marketing scheme for them. How much does a sybian cost?
Not all people (male or female) want a simulacrum, however those who do are not and never have been primarily male. You have to discard more contradictory evidence than a Pew Research poll to try to justify that conclusion.
And I totally believe you. ;)
“I’d expect something like that to cost as much as a Ferrari.”
Yep. I have no interest at all in these - quite the opposite - but a true vr game system? THAT would be interesting. People would die in them. People have already died in games which were simply immersive, far short of VR. Such a game would initially have costs like a Pentagon boondoggle, but they will come.
Barring a systems collapse and extinction level die off. Sometimes that idea doesn’t seem too bad.
How do you do emojis on FR?
Poll question of the day.
Is there a moral difference between using sex robots, dildos, or vibrators?
Agreed. One of the best movie scenes, ever.
All those moments...

Largely created by the actor, thankfully. When RH is at his best, it is amazing.

I would have to look up too many of your vocab to answer your post. But sex toys seem harmless. Not sure about fully humanoid human replacements. No one finds electric toothbrushes less moral than manual.
“Youre a real man!
How do you do emojis on FR?”
I have no idea if you were trying to be funny or not - but that is one of the funniest things I’ve read in a LONG time!!
Reaching the technological level of being able to perfectly simulate the pleasure the act of procreation gives to sentient beings could be a solution to Fermi’s paradox. Maybe everyone in the universe eventually just falls into a virtual reality hole driven by their genetic programming when they reach that level of technical simulation at will. The don’t explore, they just stay at home in constant artificial bliss. Pretty horrific.
Freegards
I did take a breath between the two paragraphs. Really I did.
How do you get the emojis on this place? Where can I find a macho guy to teach me emojis?
I am afraid to watch the Blade Runner sequel. I am not going to ruin my enjoyment of Blade Runner by hating the sequel and thinking about it every time I watch the original. Nope, you could not drag me to see the remake.
Yep - they got it right when they used the word “escapism” - while some addictions are physical in nature, i doubt there is a single one that isn’t mental/emotional and based on inability to cope with the realities of life w/o some sort of diversion.
