The creation of artificially intelligent sex robots that resemble humans has provoked a heated debate about the social and health consequences.
Meanwhile, the market for talking and moving robots made for sexual pleasure is on the rise, with makers from across the world selling them for thousands of pounds.
One implication discussed by experts is their capacity to induce addiction to sex.
Psychological therapist Dr Thaddeus Birchard told Daily Star Online that life-like robots featuring AI could be another outlet for sex addicts to express their compulsion.
Dr Birchard, clinical director of the Marylebone Centre for Psychological Therapies, said a sex addict is comparable to an alcoholic in that theyre seeking escapism.
Although cyborgs might not necessarily increase sex addiction, Dr Birchard said, they serve the same purpose as alcohol for people with drinking issues.
It would just be another way of expressing sexual activity or addiction, Dr Birchard, author of Overcoming Sexual Addiction A Self Help Guide, said.

Poll question of the day.
Is there a moral difference between using sex robots, dildos, or vibrators?
I really have no idea why some men might be drawn to these robot women.
[ I won’t repost your pic... YUCK!! ]
Is a “sex bot” can be programmed to take care of all the domestic chores and raise the children, then with technology to produce gametes and gestate a baby via mechanical means would mean the extinction of these horrible blue haired monsters since the women who were left would have to compete with a virtually perfect arrangement.
When the price of a sex bot + domestic chore robot + external mechanical gestation of humans becomes CHEAPER than a divorce settlement, I wouldn’t blame the men to taking this route....
At that point a woman would have to be on her best behavior in order to attract a mate and stay married to a mate if she wants to reproduce.
Is there a moral difference between using sex robots, dildos, or vibrators?
There is neither a moral nor much technical difference.
They are the same.
A small number of hypocrites who wish to castigate users of one while condone users of another attempt to create an imaginary distinction, but they are the same
Our race is doomed. Be nice to cockroaches. They will be around when everything man has done is buried under miles of silt and clay.

What happens if your sexbot gets a computer virus and changes her mind?
Does she get half your stuff?
Will she mow the yard or make me a sandwich?
Where’s the mute button?
If I don’t notice she changed her hair will she get mad?
Can I keep her out of my banking account?
Do she get to vote?

I’m sorry for the jokes, I couldn’t help myself
You can probably go 30 deep on pros and cons. Even the cost:
$10,000 for years of a sex robot.
$10,000 for a week with a high-class prostitute.
$??? for a girlfriend/wife - could cost you little and be a great asset or could cost you countless thousands in alimony, child support, assorted expenses.
As a strictly financial comparison, the sex robot can be the safest way to control ones assets and expenses. The downside, of course, is no matter how good she looks, it is not the same thing as an actual satisfied woman.
Then again, there's not the multiple downsides to an actual woman.
And you're cleaning the bathrooms, vacuuming the rugs, grilling me a ribeye and a loaded bake potato then meeting me back in the bedroom when you're done.
What's that finger wag mean?
Try and get a woman to give up her drawer full of dildos and vibrators. And before that bedposts, vegetables, and whatever else they can shove up there.
Which they have had access to purchase for many many years.
They probably do not want to push this too far because the fall off hypocrisy cliff is gonna be a bad one.
Seems rather on the cheap side for a lifelike, robotic humanoid, that has artificial intelligence, can walk, talk, and do simple tasks and 'other things'.
I'd expect something like that to cost as much as a Ferrari.
There will be fully 'equipped' male robots, as well. A lot of women are going to have live-in boyfriends named Robby.
Yeah, while wearing one of those sexy little French maid outfits...
We know what you're thinking, mister ;-)
It depends on how advanced you want:
1) Inflatable dolly. Sort of like the VCR of the industry now. Only remaining plusses are that they cost around $100 and you can hide them rather effectively when you have company.
2) TPE-Silicon “real dolls”. Lifelike appearance and anatomically correct but no talkie. $800-$2000.
3) Robotic doll. Adds AI and electronic sensors to the doll so it actually “feels” and “thinks”. A few also have limited motion. $5000-$20,000
4) Full motion robotic doll with AI and sensors. Performs menial tasks as well as bedroom chores. This would be the “Ferrari” you spoke of and it is not really on the market yet but there are several firms trying to get there.
I guess that’s what I get for being married to the real thing for the last 24 years. I had no idea about the state of the art of sexbots.
Thanks for the info.
Agreed. One of the best movie scenes, ever.
All those moments...
Look on the bright side. It will provide an increase in jobs. It will be like the carpet cleaning business. They come to your some with a steam cleaner and sanitize the nether regions of your bot.
