Made the mistake, recently, of trying to watch that movie again. Utterly vapid, silly, self-absorbed piece. It isn’t even an honest portrayal of New York. Best described as a “waste of time about a waste of time,” and totally inappropriate for family viewing. No merit whatsoever, other than good acting by the female lead.
It was written by Truman Capote who was a Southerner.
It did have a great musical score by Henry Mancini. And who cares if it isn't an "honest portrayal of New York"? It's a movie. Movies are heightened reality, or romantic reality, not "real" reality.
Of course I disagree about ‘B@T’ but if you REALLY want to see Audrey using her acting chops watch, ‘Wait Until Dark.’

It’s an excellent stage play as well if you can catch it live, somewhere.
It’s a classic romantic film that has inspired generations of young people to come to NYC to try and make it in their career of choice. It has inspired fashion - thanks to Audrey - for generations as well. Not only that, it is a wonderful comedy-drama with poignant sequences involving Buddy Ebsen and funny sequences as well - the wonderful party scene - that shows the director Blake Edwards at his gag-meister best.
Freepers know nothing about culture. It always makes a sad read here.
It isn't a "family" movie, it's NOT a "waste of time" at all, and almost all movies are NOT supposed to be anything at all except ENTERTAINMENT!
A movie can't be "self-absorbed" and you misused the word "vapid"! Banal or inane might have served you better; however, neither of those words is what that movie is.
Truman Capote purported to know girls like Holly Golightly in NYC.
Two words, Mickey Rooney.
Imagine that Character being shown the way he played it in a Movie today.
