You'll no longer be able to post written reviews as of July 30, and then in mid-August existing written reviews will be removed.
Soon, it'll be a little harder for you to tell everyone what you thought of Marvel's The Avengers.
Netflix is removing a desktop-only feature this summer that allowed users to read and write reviews of TV shows and movies on its website. But the shutdown is coming in stages. People will no longer be able to write their feedback on a show, similar to a Yelp review of a restaurant, by July 30. And in mid-August, people will no longer be able to read existing user reviews on Netflix either.
"We have notified members who have used the feature recently," Netflix spokesperson Smita Saran said in an email Thursday.
This isn't the first time the company has changed a feature used to provide feedback on its offerings.
The streaming service used to allow people to rate programs with one to five stars. But, early last year, the company changed it to a simple thumbs up or thumbs down. Some people criticized the move as overly simplistic. Forbes contributor Paul Tassi said the new system was "the epitome of uselessness." Netflix, meanwhile, still uses the star-rating data and has said it has received more ratings under its thumbs-up-thumbs-down system.
Netflix's written reviews allowed users to explain why they doled out five stars, for instance, to Parks and Recreation. But they only ever appeared on Netflix's website, not its many apps, and a Netflix spokeswoman said the written reviews didn't influence the system Netflix used to recommend shows to you.
"This feature is only offered on the website and has seen declining usage over time," Saran said.

How do you review on Amazon? I’ve been a Prime user for years on ROKU but could never figure out how. Before dropping Netflix for the 2nd time, I did use their stars feature.
Here in Hollywood, imdb knew the conservatives were indeed trolling as I know a lot of people at netflix, imdb, rotten tomatoes. Unlike the obama years, they know we wont shut up like in the last 8 years of obamatard. Case in point: Red Hen.
They still have user reviews, they only axed the message boards. Netflix has axed the reviews as well. It’s a shame because if you read a few you can triangulate and get a sense of whether or not it’s worth the time.
probably proposed by susan rice, Obama’s minister or propaganda and misinformation
If you scroll down to where the customer review star chart is (what percentage gave which number of stars) there’s a “write review” button. Then depending on the product you get some stars to pick and a box to write in. But you always have to write something. Can’t just say it’s 4 stars and move on. On some books and movies it even parts out the stars, so you gotta rate the plot and the characters and whatever THEN write a damn review. Really sucks. I only do reviews for people I know personally, and also know need the cash. Anybody else I just can’t muster the effort.
looks like we have an opportunity to start a free speech comment web site. Too bad I am totally inept.
I mentioned that earlier in the thread, but the reviews themselves are “controlled”, and must be submitted for approval. You can’t get into an instant discussion, which is far more productive. I enjoyed where I could watch a given show while it was on and discuss it with others at once or ask/answer questions if I (or someone else) missed something. There’s another board that copied the message boards to their own site, but hardly anyone posts...
Anyone know of a website that discusses movies (reviews) and the actors?
I used to go to the NYT and then read the general comments. Its getting harder to do that. They have editor chosen comments and favorite comments but when you get to the general, you get a few normal people. Of course they all use the NYT, which is a shame. There are some more family or conservative review sites, dont know them off hand. I like wide variety reviews like amazon. Where you can throw out the over the top ones on either side.
I dont go to the movies much but if I went today Id ask my son who has a theater subscription and sees several a week, Would I like it? Lol.

No it was not dying.
According to whom? Oh you mean because Netflix says right when Obama comes to a Netflix. So you believe them hook, line and sinker. Yeah they would never lie to you. Haha! Yeah there is no collerattion with Obama WHAT SO EVER.... Haha!
Oh and for the record the the Obama show has not aired yet.
Hey I have some beach front property in Nebraska to sell you. Haha!
Is every single internet-based company TRYING to commit suicide?
It’s dying because the quantity of reviews written has been steadily dropping and because the reactions (people declaring a review helpful or not) are also dropping. Netflix has 250 reviews for Murder on the Orient Express. Amazon, which has a much less friendly review system, has 1400. The Netflix system is dying. That’s plainly obvious. And Netflix has also been obviously moving away from it. The ONLY platform you can write OR see Netflix reviews on is webbrowser. None of the TV or phone apps show the written reviews.
Sorry bub, this handwriting has been on the wall for YEARS. Sorry you couldn’t bother to notice it. But that’s on you.
Ok so you can’t do it on ROKU right after watching the film? I was afraid I’d have to go online to comment. Thanks though
Yeah. Amazon reviews have to be done on their website, and the process sucks. I haven’t reviewed anything I’ve watched on Prime. Just too much work.
First the stars, now the feedback. It’s impossible to know now (other than looking at 3rd parties) if a given movie is garbage, or worth watching. Now I just have to convince the wife...
This is because studies show that the comments section are actually more influential to the public than the actual written article, movie, song, etc.
If a site does not allow easy commenting, it is usually because it wants to silence dissent. (some small sites simply do not have easy ways to handle comments)
