Bill Maher Hopes For A Recession, Audience Applauds

Political talk show host Bill Maher has a bad case of Trump Derangement Syndrome and the symptoms were on full display Friday night. The HBO show host said that he now wishes an economic recession in America in order to get rid of President Trump. I wish his statement was some kind of lame, offputting failed joke but Maher was perfectly serious. And, yes, fellow deranged audience members applauded him.
During his Friday night show, Maher began his monologue by addressing the G7 Summit in Quebec this weekend. He described Trump’s arrival Friday as Right on schedule, the turd showed up in the punch bowl. Ok, that’s standard for the Hollywood swells with nighttime talk shows. He went on to criticize President Trump for noting that Russia should be allowed to come back to the group of nations as a member and he mocked Trump’s statement that he doesn’t need to prepare too much for the summit with North Korea’s Kim Jong-un. Fair enough, you might say. Both of those comments were somewhat controversial.
Maher is uncertain if America is a democracy any more. Well, America is a constitutional republic, but never mind. Apparently, Trump has killed democracy or something.
I dont know if were a western democracy anymore, claimed Maher. One of their big issues [at G7] is democracy. Its in trouble, and Russia is meddling in all of them. These are issues he doesnt care about or is actively working against.
He wants to be king, the comedian continued. I keep saying: slow-moving coup. Ive been saying it since before the election. Macron tweeted nobody is forever about Trump yesterday. That was his burn. Im sorry, but dictators are.
Then Maher went right to the heart of his discontent. America’s economy is on fire now and Maher doesn’t like it. He knows that a strong economy and consumer confidence levels are at historic highs and that is a really good sign for Republican success in 2018 and on into 2020 if it all holds. So, in order to damage Trump’s hopes of retaining a Republican-led Congress and then his own chances of re-election, Maher wishes an economic recession upon his fellow countrymen. Maher asked guest Shermichael Singleton his opinion of the economy during a panel discussion. Singleton said, “It’s going well. For now.” This led perfectly into Maher’s bombshell remark.
“Thank you, thats my question, Maher added. I feel like the bottom has to fall out at some point, and by the way, Im hoping for it.”
“I think one way you get rid of Trump is a crashing economy. So please, bring on the recession. Sorry if that hurts people, but its either root for a recession or you lose your democracy.
It doesn’t get more deranged than that, does it? A wealthy Hollywood elitist is hoping for the bottom to fall out of the economy and an economic crash. “Sorry if that hurts people” is the most disgusting part of the whole ugly diatribe. Many families are still recovering from the long drawn out Great Recession which began in 2008 as lifetime savings were wiped out and jobs were lost. Now, in order to get rid of President Trump, he would like a repeat of that.
Maher and his ilk hate Trump more than they love their fellow Americans. As he laments western democracy in America he fails to recognize that it is a western democracy that keeps our American elections in place and provides him with the right to criticize the president for a living. The man cannot accept the result of the last presidential election and it has crippled him. Those audience members who applaud such political discourse should check themselves, too. Do they wish the same pain, even upon themselves?
I’ll end this with a tweet from French President Macron chatting with President Trump at the G7 Friday. It looks like the two men are getting along just fine.

Maher is on to something, in the sense that a recession seems like the ONLY thing that can stop a Trump re-election.
As noted elsewhere, the data are compelling:
The statistical reality is that in modern times, if a recession occurs during or pretty close to a Presidential election year, the standing President OR the Party holding the Presidency always loses that election:
August 1929-March 1933: FDR comes to power
January 1980-July 1980: Reagan is elected
July 1990-March 1991: Clinton is elected (yea, yea, I know....the recession was technically over by election day but if memory serves me correctly, the NBER didn't call the end recession until AFTER the election; indeed, they announced that we were IN a recession around March 1991)
December 2007-June 2009: Obama is elected
In contrast, if the economy is doing well**, standing Presidents always win re-election.
Truman won in 1948 (note that recession started during the month of the election, and Truman almost lost)
Ike was re-elected in 1956
Nixon was re-elected in 1972
Reagan was re-elected in 1984
Clinton was re-elected in 1996
Obama was re-elected in 2012
** - At the risk of sounding Clintonian, for Obama it depends on the definition of the word "well." Certainly, most breathing, rational humans recognize that the US' economic performance under Obama's Presidency vis-à-vis other post-recessionary situations was horrible:
Further, along other dimensions, life under Obama was pretty bad around the 2012 election:
Nonetheless (and please, don't take this as me applauding Obama), the economy and the stock market were growing vs contracting, unemployment was declining vs rising in 2012. Add having the media and entertainment industries in his pocket, and you get a re-election. However, as pointed out elsewhere, Obama won ONLY by about 350,000 votes.
All that said, The Trump Economic Train is unlike anything we've seen, people of all walks of life are doing better. We can say what we want about Maher, but the reality is that "It's the economy, stupid!" is a pretty solid political truth. While I don't think Trump will lose re-election, we cannot take our foot off the gas: Deplorabilism must continue to grow in size and stature for the betterment of all Americans.

“His annual salary is $10 million”
Such level of annual earning is insane. So much money for dimwits like Maher is the cause of their insanity.

I won't take back what I said about kissing my "buy American" beliefs goodbye if Hillary won, but there is a big difference.
The Clinton's are about selling us out to the highest bidder, and the loss of American manufacturing would have continued under the guise of "free trade", so Americans would have effectively given up on the country anyway if she had won.
On the other hand, President Trump has stood for bringing back American jobs, fair trade, record low unemployment for blacks and Hispanics, and if he succeeds with N. Korea then peace. What in all of that does Maher oppose?

I see Maher has been taking advantage of the new heroin/mushroom/meth/ecstasy/vodka cocktail that’s so popular among ‘his kind’ these days.
Sounds like even had a double.

The left is insane and extremely dangerous. They would accept economic collapse or an American city in smoldering ruin to protect liberalism (disguised as their “Democracy”). How sick is that Americans applaud despair upon other Americans? I remember Obama’s “boot on neck” and “bring a gun” comments. The infantile audience was ecstatic as a bunch of drunken Brown Shirts or Antifa types.

If there is a recession I hope that so called late night comedy and those attempting to deliver it suffer the most.
Why not make them suffer now? Why not create a recession for the late night comedy shows? We have the power to do that. It’s easy, just cut your cable tv. They cannot survive without cable subscriber fees. CNN’s revenue is 50% cable subscriber fees. Wouldn’t you love to see CNN implode along with the rest of the LEFT MEDIA CARTEL? I know your answer is yes.
It may seem like you cannot live without it but I have been without it for about 10 years. I have not missed it at all.
If you send a check to the cable tv company, you are funding the LEFT.

Agree. They do not care if America is a pile of rubble as long as they are in control.

Yes, cut the cable. The only reason I may have had for cable is if I followed sports, but with the NFL and NBA full onslaught Hate America tour, it only makes sense to just subscribe to MLB or NHL or college football online and cast it to the big screen if necessary. Incidentally, I’m surprised that college football/basketball isn’t as SJW as the NFL considering the fact that most colleges are full-on anti-1st Amendment cesspools of socialist vile and hatred, but I digress.

Which celebrity will be the first to openly say they are “rooting” for an assassination?
Probably some fringe, slightly known one who the media will cover over and over and over again emphasizing the line: “rooting for an assassination” over and over and over again.

I was in Minnesota when Obama was first elected. One engineer that I worked around was a dyed in the wool Minnesota barking moonbat commie Democrat. Not only did he cheer at Obama’s election, he wanted an economic crash so all the “evil rich Republicans” would commit suicide.

It’s the current Democrat (read operational arm of the CPUSA) philosophy of “better to rule in Hell than to serve in Heaven.” What else would you expect from a party that booed God three times at the 2012 Convention and chanted “Hail, Satan” at a pro life rally? They have chosen their side.
God bless and protect PDJT.

He hopes for a recession because that would make the democrats right in their predictions of what Trump would cause. He is a big mouthed dunderhead. He is simply trying to tear down everything Trump is doing to make him look like he knows what is going on.
