Talk show host and comedian Steve Harvey referred to the Golden State Warriors as gorillas, on ESPNs NBA Finals pre-game show.
During an interview with ESPNs Stephen A. Smith, Harvey was asked if there was anything his hometown Cleveland Cavaliers could do to derail Golden State? Harvey responded by saying that there wasnt, because they had 800-pound gorillas on their team:
The caption of the video asks Outkick the Coverages Clay Travis whether Harveys comments constitute a Doug Adler situation. Adler, who is white, was part of ESPNs coverage of the Australian Open in 2017. During coverage of the match between Venus Williams who is black and Stefanie Voegele, Adler used the term guerilla effect to describe Williams tactics on the court.
Upon hearing Adler say that, many viewers thought Adler had referred to Williams tactics as the gorilla effect, causing some to believe that Adler had used a racial slur. ESPN subsequently fired Adler despite his obvious reference to tactic, not an animal.
The difference in Harveys use of the term is that unlike Adler by referencing all the gorillas on Golden States team, Harvey actually did apply an animal reference to black athletes.

I have been known to refer to the Fiji rugby 7s team as animals. They are big, strong, fast, and play well. I am sure a libtard would be offended. I doubt the Fiji players would be.
That’s racist!
As long as he didn’t say they must have been from the Planet of the Apes, he should be okay. ;-(
Harvey, too, was not guilty of racism. The term “800-pound gorilla” or “gorilla in the room” does not refer to race. It’s a figure of speech. Damn this obsession with PC!
How long will it be until gorillas are renamed something else in the name of PC?
800 pound gorilla is a long-standing term that has nothing to do with race. Means it is a huge problem that is very difficult to deal with.
Yeah exactly.
Harvey says a lot of racist things....but he’s black and there are no rules for blacks.
“’800-pound gorilla’ is an American English expression for a person or organization so powerful that it can act without regard to the rights of others or the law. The phrase is rooted in a joke riddle: ‘Where does an 800-lb. gorilla sit?’ Answer: ‘Anywhere he wants to!’”
There will probably be some ‘manufactured outrage’ but Harvey is a total ‘Cash Cow’ for his wide variety of TV offerings.
Is calling him a ‘Cash Cow’ racist? Is it Cowist? Bovine-ist?
So stupid. ALL of it!
‘Damn this obsession with PC!’
he should have said that Cleveland’s talent is too ‘niggardly’to cope with the other team...
Zero. This is the guy who screwed up a beauty pageant, and is still working.
The only people who think the word “gorilla” refers to black people are white liberals and black “activists.”
It’s particularly ridiculous in this situation, since “800 pound gorilla” is a well-known expression. But then, these same people confused “guerilla” with “gorilla” in the case of another sportscaster, meaning that they are living so securely encased in their own little world of hatred and offense that they have ceased to hear, think or understand things any other way.
[What are the odds that Harvey will be fired from his various shows? ]
I hope at the least he’s fired from Family Feud.
He destroyed that show. Richard Dawson is rolling in his grave witnessing what a ghetto Ebonics freak show it’s become.
How about “Elephant in the room”? Will that become fat shaming commentary? Elephnat-ists?
How long will it be before media tells us they are racist.
Oh, please.
Depends, did he say it was a Columbian Gorilla or a Philippine gorilla?
