A Corinthian helmet was discovered in a 5th century BC grave in the Taman Peninsula, southwest Russia, according to RIA Novosti news agency. Made of bronze, Corinthian helmets covered the entire head and neck, with slits for the eyes and mouth, protruding cheek covers (paragnathides in Greek) as well as a curved protrusion in the back to protect the nape of the neck. The helmet has a padded interior made of fabric or leather to protect the warrior's skull. These helmets were indispensable for the Greek hoplites, the famous foot soldiers of the phalanxes, as they were highly protective because they completely covered the head. Often their crest was surmounted by a crest (lophos) with a horsehair plume. The one found is corroded and highly fragmented, but its discovery is extremely significant for historical purposes. The Corinthian helmet is the only one of its kind discovered north of the Black Sea... When a warrior died, his helmet would be buried next to him... The Greeks founded large cities on the northern coast of the Black Sea. The major ones were Olbia, at the mouth of the Dnieper; Panticapaion, today's Kerch, in the extreme west of the Crimea, and Chersonese (Sevastopol); on the Russian bank, one found Phanagoria (Taman), also the name given to the peninsula on which the Corinthian helmet was discovered.

Too cool.
Very cool!
Is it made of Corinthians Leather?
Wow! Stunning!
Seems to have been found in the general area of Greek colonizing efforts.
Cool find.
I miss my Cordoba.
Wear that while driving a Chrysler Cordova.
The Russkies bashed him real good.
Isn’t that the same area where Jason and the Argonauts found the golden fleece?
"...the Carians are a race who came into the mainland from the islands. In ancient times they were subjects of king Minos, and went by the name of Leleges, dwelling among the isles... They served on board the ships of king Minos whenever he required; and thus, as he was a great conqueror and prospered in his wars, the Carians were in his day the most famous by far of all the nations of the earth. They likewise were the inventors of three things, the use of which was borrowed from them by the Greeks; they were the first to fasten crests on helmets and to put devices on shields, and they also invented handles for shields. In the earlier times shields were without handles, and their wearers managed them by the aid of a leathern thong, by which they were slung round the neck and left shoulder. Long after the time of Minos, the Carians were driven from the islands by the Ionians and Dorians, and so settled upon the mainland. [The Histories of Herodotus tr by George Rawlinson]
In clothing and equipment the Urartians differed from the Assyrians and showed close affinities with the Hurrians and Hittites. An example of this is the crested helmet, which came into use in Assyria only in the mid-8th century B.C., having been taken over from the Urartians. (p 48) In the 9th century B.C. Urartian military equipment had been similar to that of the Hurrian tribes and quite different from that of the Assyrians; but by the reign of Argishti... Assyrian equipment... had become the regular wear of the Urartian army. Similarly the culture and the way of life of the ruling class of the Kingdom of Van were deeply imbued with Assyrian influence. Neat.
RICH Corinthian leather
Or a Cordoba, even.
Other side of the Black Sea, I think.
They were Great Cars. I had the Volare wagon. 318. Super roomy. Super simple under the hood. Too bad for the zero corrosion technology applied to the body and frame. They almost rusted on the dealer lot.
Must have been standard concussion protocol in those times.
