In one of the more beautiful moments of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's royal wedding, guests were treated to a performance of "Stand By Me" by Karen Gibson and the Kingdom Choir.
The song was performed following Bishop Michael Bruce Curry's address at St. George's Chapel in Windsor. Watch and cry and sing along and watch and cry again:

While everyone has 100% danced to the song at every wedding reception they've ever been to since it was released in 1961, TIME magazine points out that Meghan and Harry's decision for the choir to sing the song at their wedding marks a symbolic turning point for the monarchy.
During the civil rights movement in America, "Stand By Me" rose to popularity during as a "rallying cry for solidarity amongst people of color"
The marriage of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, whose mother Doria Ragland is black, is already a significant moment for the monarchy. As British writer Lola Adesioye asks to TIME:
"How did this girlwho is not only of color, but didnt go to the same schools or universities as the royals, who wasnt even raised in the U.K., and so has all these points of difference and othernessget to this place? It says a lot about diversification.

I didn’t watch the wedding but they sang the hymn Abide By Me at the FA Cup final. Apparently there was more church music there than at St. George’s.
See posts 74, 110 and 112. And stop maligning Harry for malicious rumors floated by Camilla’s allies that have long been put to rest.
You only listened to the radio. Yet, you dump on the rest of us and the rolling eyes and snickering guests who saw his antics.
She was raised Catholic and went to parochial school. Not once in all my time in parochial school or going to mass have I ever seen such a display. He isn’t Catholic so what was it that caused her to pick him to officiate? Gee, I dunno. Maybe the same reason she had to go out and get an all black gospel choir despite the fact that there were blacks and other races in the church choir. It’s the same reason for that black cellist who hadn’t a clue how to tie a tie and wore what looked like Christmas socks when every detail of the guests’ attire was specifically spelled out. Yes, this will go down in history but not how she expected.
Listening on the radio means you also missed her arriving at the church. An older divorcee all in white with tulle blowing all around looking for all the world like a Halloween ghost. Her hair was already falling down so by the end it was a total mess. You also missed her mama’s no class nose ring.
She was raised Catholic so where this guy came in at, who knows other than he was the right color.
I slept late, but saw the arrival, the vows and the procession after, in replay. I thought it was a lovely, elegantly simple wedding; and this rendition of the song was beautiful. (Also, the bride’s dress was perfect. I think she carried herself perfectly today.)
I believe these two really love one another, and wish them the best. Beyond that: not my circus, not my monkeys.
Then we have Liz to blame for this crop of bozos. If only she’d married someone with more than two brain cells.
At least Eugenie and Beatrice dialed back on their head attire.
She’ll squeeze a couple of pups into the royal bloodline and then call it quits, take the leftist jackass Harry for half of what he’s worth, and she’ll go on Oprah and talk about how great she is, how racist the royals are, how their racism destroyed the marriage.
Harry won’t give a damn, because that’s all he wants to do, too, because he’s a jackass leftist.
I guess tha team players wanted to evoke a savior. The elites at the wedding don’t think they need one, as long as they have each other?
We laughed at the “faithful until death do us part.” Her track record of promises isn’t so sterling.
Liz’ horrid behavior over Diana’s death used up every ounce of criticism there was.
She’s been playing the New Diana role for a long time. Either she’ll crack from the pressure first or Harry will wake up and realize she’s an actress playing his mama.
Sure, her family is something else but the big glaring red flag is why she has no friends to invite. No, inviting 36 work colleagues doesn’t count.
Tacky, tacky, tacky.
You only listned to it on the radio,
Bull, typical, you making assumptions, I did see her walk in, saw Charles in his grays, saw Harry sweating so you do not know know what you are talking about, I said I heard his lesson on the radio.
I was talking about the lesson not the video. I am just surprised here so many like you do not approve, for your information it was not your wedding.
Here's to Harry and Meghan, may their love thrive and be blessed.
Not going to argue. Your original post stated you listened on the radio.
Bugger that crap. He could PLAY.
Never said he couldn’t play. Did say he hadn’t a clue how to tie a tie or wear appropriate socks.
Why were all the “extras” black? The two extra pastors were black. The cellist was black. The gospel choir was all black despite the church choir already having a diversity of races. Hmm, why was that?
I wasn't even planning to watch it, as the Royal Family isn't really something I bother about, but I dipped in and out of the BBC coverage and thought it was all rather lovely.
What hype! Kack me w/ a scone.
It’s a beautiful chapel, and I like what they did with the flowers. It all seemed very elegantly understated, in a way I hadn’t expected.
