In one of the more beautiful moments of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's royal wedding, guests were treated to a performance of "Stand By Me" by Karen Gibson and the Kingdom Choir.

The song was performed following Bishop Michael Bruce Curry's address at St. George's Chapel in Windsor. Watch and cry and sing along and watch and cry again:

While everyone has 100% danced to the song at every wedding reception they've ever been to since it was released in 1961, TIME magazine points out that Meghan and Harry's decision for the choir to sing the song at their wedding marks a symbolic turning point for the monarchy.

During the civil rights movement in America, "Stand By Me" rose to popularity during as a "rallying cry for solidarity amongst people of color"

The marriage of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, whose mother Doria Ragland is black, is already a significant moment for the monarchy. As British writer Lola Adesioye asks to TIME:

"How did this girl—who is not only of color, but didn’t go to the same schools or universities as the royals, who wasn’t even raised in the U.K., and so has all these points of difference and otherness—get to this place? It says a lot about diversification.”

1) “Stand by Me” is NOT a Negro spiritual, although it was based on one called, “Lord, Stand by Me.”
2) It was released in 1961 originally
3) Released as a rock song by John Lennon, 1975.

There. Now I feel better.

Was the preacher given a time limit? Most things like this are scheduled to the minute. I thought that Harry looked very happy except when the preacher went in and on. He seemed to think that this occasion was about himself. I guess he will be the new darling of the swamp media.

Complete garbage rendition. I despise the “vocal mastication” style of singing favored by pop stars today and this rendition is all of that... No thanks..

......” the Queen had that choir situated all the way in the back of the church”.....

Well silly the front is for the bride, groom and the clergy.

The middle holds the ‘traditional’ boys choir..... there was no other place to put them.

The Royals aren’t ‘allowed’ to be political. They are figureheads who do public works. That’s all.

Our Episcopal minister would not let us play “Here comes the Bride” for that reason.

“I didn’t know that was a gospel song”

It isn’t.

And I did not care at all for the hip hop sermon and turned it off relatively quickly.

A banal homily on love? While the loving Muslim presence was very evident during the celebrations in the form of the British military spaced out in arms’ length from each other.

You weren't alone in laughing.....the royals were snickering as well over all his theatrics. Others were shifting in their sets, a tad uncomfortable. I wasn't sure if people were laughing with him or at him .....probably both. Odd though that she would have an Episcopal Pastor when her church is Anglican. Likely for the entertainment factor I suspect.

No excuse. Being a member of the figurehead royal family does not excuse one from basic human decency. Millions of us who could nothing except pray did that. They absolutely could have influenced the outcome, or at least condemned the situation, and chose not to.

Listened on the radio, the sermon was beautiful - all on the power of love, very nice. Stand by me was a real surprise and a beautiful rendition.

We are the USA and not part of the UK - and I can not understand why some people (here) have so much nastiness about this marriage and how they wanted it done, jealousy is a guess.

I love British church boys choirs, and the St. George's Chapel choir today was beautiful (as was all the other music).

Loved the American Gospel choir as well! The ceremony was a neat mix of British and American musical cultures.
