GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – A 5-year-old girl suffered serious injuries after she was attacked by a bear overnight in east Orchard Mesa.
The girl had gone outside around 2:30 a.m. early Sunday to investigate noises she thought were being made by her dog, the girl’s mother told Colorado Parks and Wildlife officers.
But the girl’s mother heard her daughter screaming and went outside to see a “large black bear” dragging her daughter, CPW officials said. The bear dropped the girl after her mother screamed at it. Their home is in the east Orchard Mesa area, above the Colorado River corridor, officials said.
The girl was transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center in Grand Junction with serious injuries, CPW said. Radio traffic from first responders said she had been bitten on her back and near her head.

Thanks for “reintroducing” predators. In Spain, a country I visit a lot, the greenies got the wolves brought back and protected...and now the wolves are killing old ladies and other vulnerable people walking across their fields at twilight (which is apparently wolf feeding time).
Why are we doing this stupid Euro greenie stuff here in the US?

Part of the UN Agenda = introduce predators, like the Not native ( imported at large taxpayer expense ) Canadian timber wolf packs, to kill and terrorize Americans / their livestock.
The Canadian wolves are much larger than American wolves. -2- Hydatid Disease is caused by the tiny Echinococcosis granulosus tapeworm = Canadian imported wolves : contaminating the landscape with billions of E. granulosus eggs.
The story doesn't tell the details, but I got the impression that the 5-year-old let herself out because she thought she heard the dog.
I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that the mom would have just let her daughter out alone and unsupervised at that hour.
I think this a time for those of us who are reading this story to feel sympathy rather than judgment.

You're right. Reason doesn't matter to a five-year-old. But perhaps the mother was sleeping, having gone to bed thinking her daughter was all snuggled, safe and warm.
As they say, you can't fix stupid.
Critters be everywhere at 2:30 am Either the two legged or the four legged kind. It is unclear which is more dangerous but 2:30 AM is not a good time to be outside alone no matter how old you are or where you live.
Working a lot of night shifts in my day I can wholeheartedly second that one....
Leftie animal rights activists, who invaded Colorado over the recent decades from leftie cities, have taken over many of the DOW / former dog catcher jobs.
They now post signs that say: entering bear country and -2- they banned the Spring bear hunting season that previously taught bears that humans are not the easy, first option for food.
By vacating : grazing allotments, the lefties have intentionally destroyed many family sheep herding / cattle operations that historically had helped controlled the predators.
We got over 300 million people in the US. Only several thousand mountain lions and tens of thousands of bears. We can afford to lose a few.
Makes camping a more exciting pastime.

NJ banned their bear cull during the Corzine years and then couldn’t figure out why their bear population exploded.
They then began charging people with the crime of feeding the bears when said bears ate their pets.
As if people were actively handing their pets to the bear as a snack.
People traveling or camping alone were the mostly likely victims of bear attacks — almost 70 percent of the fatalities involved a single person. Only 9 percent of bear attacks occurred with more than 2 people present.
Beware the bear that stalks in silence: followed by a fast rush. Once predatory bear behavior is initiated it may persist for hours unless it is deterred.
