A Marine explains which state would win if the US declared war on itself

We recently came across the following question on Quora: "If every state of the USA declared war against each other, which would win?" We've published the full answer from Quora user Jon Davis, a Marine veteran who is now a writer and blogger on military, veterans, and Middle Eastern affairs. In Oct. 2014, Davis' answer was optioned by a Hollywood producer for a potential television series.

These are the accounts of the Second American Civil War, also known as the Wars of Reunification and the American Warring States Period.

4th Generation Warfare. The decision makers and the enablers in the media will be legitimate targets, just as the Tories were. It will be a lot less force on force of large formations and more fire team and squad hits.

The entire premise of all the states duking it out against each other ( imagine MO trying to win anything on an 8 state front?).

If anthing occurs regarding total breakdown of fedgov influence, regions that have interstate ties and mutual aid/benefit capabilities would band together. TX, LA, MS AL FL all have ports, Upper MW and MW has resoures and lines of communications t the Southern regions, oil, NG raw materials, manufacturing etc all enabled by the big rivers, but also bounded by natural obstacles like the Rockies and desert SW, Mississippi R & Appalachian’s to the east, cold zone to the north. West coast has much of the same, east coast too. Cities would be the toads n the roads, feral populations who cannot produce much internally, food, shortages etc. farmers markets, hunting fishing are the local rural personal resource, wood, water in abundance. close in rural areas would be predated for some time while fuel remained, but rural folks shoot first, shovel second. It would not take long for rural defense forces to form, and begin road blocking.

Example- 12 of 14 neighbors with a two mile radius of me are retired veterans, all hunt fish ranch or farm and can cover one anther with fires from the porch in most cases. A all wx creek runs through the valley, lots of forest but clear field so fire, only two roads transect the local valley, we know one anther and have similar cultural backgrounds. I think we’d do okay. One diesel shop, a veterinarian, a MD, a NP, engineer, welding shop, one guy has a 100 kw generator ready to plug into the grid and 5000 g of diesel ( the mechanic) says we would run it two hours a day for 6 months for water pumping/necessities etc. Over 150 cattle on the pastures, everyone grows fruit and veggies and cans. We all have generators chainsaws and (some of us have) decent amounts of gasoline on hand. Since jobs would go, we all would have time on hand to watch and cover while we tend to truck production and such. I doubt the Sherriff would be trying to evict us either once we all defaulted on mortgages.

Replicate that scenario times a million or two rural enclaves. Compare to the city folks.... they’d be starving in a week, out of water in a month or less (most get water from rural areas, and that requires a presence and power to pump) and fighting each other for scraps...

Once fuel ran out, we would be accustomed to less anyway, so we would do fine.

California would lose big time because they would be waiting for the completion of the high speed rail system to transport troops.

They would also quickly find their water supply cut off.

And their electrical system cut off.

And finally, it would take them years to get their state EPA approvals for mortars and grenades.

What are you smoking?

Please tell me where YOU are from?

What do you think is the percentage overall of these meth-smoking white trailer parkers are?

Most Southerners make enough money and are middle class, much as everywhere else...

BTW, I’ve met “meth-smoking trailer parkers” from far Northern Maine all the way to the deserts of California.

And almost EVERY big city in the USA, from Detroit to Los Angeles, from Seattle to Miami has violent black thug gangs, and many also have violent Hispanic thug gangs.

No, what the OP was talking about is there once was a Southern Country, it lost its War of Independence. As a Southerner I’m glad, actually. And glad slavery is gone.

Having said that, it simply makes sense that neighboring states would join together.

In the meantime, when all is happening, I’m sure the black gangs of thugs in the cities of Atlanta, Birmingham, New Orleans, Memphis, Macon, Jacksonville, etc. etc. will start killing people but eventually they will either control a no-mans land inside a city or die trying to break out to get food, water, stuff. In other words, they’d be confined at best and whittle down to a remnant over time.

The meth-smokers would try the same, but I’m not sure there’s enough of them to form a gang that could take over a large territory. Other people who are not meth-smokers would oppose them and the meth-smokers/opioid abusers/heroin shooters would find getting a fix harder and harder until there is no more (end of drug-chain suppliers from overseas/pharmacies running out of stock). Not to say pot smoking and moonshining wouldn’t flourish, though. Hell, I know how to distill and I’ve got a ton of land to grow more corn on.

Similar stories would break out all over the nation. Most places would go through terrible violence and predation for a while, and then calmer and stronger heads would prevail.

The question is, what percentage of everyday folk would perish before reason returned?

In the big cities and close suburbs, I’d say at least 60-75%.

The only reasonable part in the whole story...

“Riots in Chicago began to erupt as the people accused the government of corruption, which for all purposes was true. Seeing the coming of the end, much of the Chicago legislature slipped out in the night and booked passage to Montreal on private planes.”

nonsense.

nearly immediately the following would happen:
economic activity would cease.
Power would go out
internet would go out
Water/Sewer cease to function
Transportation/Mobility highly restricted

Then it would be neighbor against neighbor for the last can of soup

Then mass starvation. The lucky ones would be refugees able to walk out of the most impacted areas, more than likely most would be kept pinned down in cities where they would starve, die of thirst and disease.

Please tell me where YOU are from?

Born and raised in the suburbs of Denver but I've lived in Jacksonville, Florida since 2004. I know from what I speak.

The South is not one unified, hand-holding, monolith of traditional values solidarity.

Looking around the solidly middle-class subdivision where I live, I'd say that about half my neighbors weren't born in Florida and about half of them voted for Hillary Clinton.

No, neighboring states are not going to "join together" because there isn't going to be a war between states. It's going to be a free-for-all where, if anything, the only solidarity will be amongst neighbors who band together primarily to defend their families from hoodlums with little concern over who we each voted for.

MD panhandle would be on the good guys side.

They won’t fight for their own country, what makes you think they would fight for ours? There would be a stampede back to Mexico/South America.

Then it would be neighbor against neighbor for the last can of soup.

And at that point I’m taking up arms not over ideology but to defend my gas-powered generator from thieves and my wife and daughters from rapists.

"....I'm not seeing this on our side so much....."

Well, our side is not lawless and out picking fights all the time like these liberal weasels are. We're law-abiding citizens. They're not.

But in an armed conflict, the millions of gun owners would be out there defending our country against those that would destroy it.

So, which side are you on, the snowflakes or the patriots?

My money is on the red staters.

Most of these scenarios go along state lines. It would be more like to break along counties and cities. I live in the reddest part of a very red county in blue Maryland.

My money is on the red staters.

They'll all call themselves patriots.

There's no such thing as red states and blue states outside of presidential elections.

And what "red staters" are you going to join up with? The Ron Paul libertarians? The Baptists? Mormons? Bushite NeoCons? Confederate flag-waving survivalists? Religious cultists? Who's going to be your leader of the red states? Your military officers? Who will appoint them? Will you follow the orders they give you?

How will you know which side is which? Will there be flags? Uniforms? Secret handshakes?

Who will the enemy be? Hillary voters? Bernie Bros? Will they have uniforms? How will you know who to shoot?

You're thinking that this is going to be like the last civil war: Two teams. Two ideologies. Two armies. Two uniforms. Two chains of command. And one line dividing the two.

It's not going to be anything like that.
