Who is they and what are they injecting?
Dr Joel Wallach. Youtube him. Look for a Harvard study that found 1-2 tablespoons of ground chicken cartilage for 30 days, something like that.
A bud of mine at work went thru this - paid for by the VA of all people.
Did zip for his knees.
Surgery did work.
Me - I would not spend a dime on it....
I'm waiting on the FDA approved ones so I don't end up with a full replacement.
If you're concerned, tell him to ask his Ortho about it. The legitimate way is coming, hopefully, sooner than later.
If they’re talking about “Supartz injections” don’t waste your time and money. I’ve had the six-shot routine and it didn’t do squat to fix the osteoarthritis in my knee.
I believe the insurance companies have been duped by the orthopedic surgeons and maker of Supartz to pay for it in an attempt to avoid an expensive knee replacement.
Beware of spending lot of money for something for which they will not give you a written guaranty of 95% success.
After a walk on the beach, next morning I had a much swollen and painful knee. The doc ordered knee x-rays, which showed worn out cartilage and bone on bone knee joint.
Instead of going the route of knee replacements, I am trying the route of more walking. After resting my knee for 7-8 days, the pain was diminished and after that I started walking. I try to get in 10 miles of walking at a fairly rapid pace every week. And it has helped a lot to take away knee pain. In my opinion exercise tends to strengthen muscles and and tendon around the knee, thus taking some load off the bones. I use Dr Scholl’s well padded shoes and walk on sidewalks which are flat.
What is the name of the company, and the name of the procedure?
I need a new knee, badly.
Folks are claiming Stem Cell therapy for everything from hair regrowth to knees. Have an acquaintance that had the knee stem cells about three or four months ago and he feels its helping, but not fixed. I think he said they were his own stem cells. May be wrong.
It’s always been my understanding that cartilage is about the only thing in the human body that has zero regenerative capability. But I’m not a Dr. and I don’t even play one. My knees are shot too... that said wouldn’t do it until the FDA comes out with an approved therapy.
I had a series of 3 stem cell shots about 10 years ago. It substantially reduced pain and regrew some cartilage. That was with a homeopathic Dr. The cost has gone from 1000 for 3 shots to 5000, uncovered by Medicare.
Four years ago my mom had it done at the age of 79. The sessions were extremely painful. Sadly after all that pain and money, it did not work. She’s taking painkillers now.
A Freeper explained that it is due to age. Cells can only regenerate at their age level.
The stem cells are your own, centrifuged from your blood and injected on the site. Cannot hurt. Might help.
Have you looked into prolotherapy?
Someone I work with is going to get this procedure and is very excited about it. I can’t offer any more info but will be happy to report back when it is all said and done.
If it doesn’t give improvement, how much of your money are they willing to refund? Likewise, what are the odds of something going wrong and the condition getting worse?
Dont know about this therapy but have a friend whose parent and siblings died of some obscure cancer and he got it about 10 years ago
Goes overseas and gets pumped full of stem cells and and goes through some blood purification process every couple months
Has kept him healthy and cancer in remission but i know he is probably spending $500,000 a year or more on the treatments. Better than dying if you can afford it
Stem cell therapy is working for other parts of the body. All I can say is it seems to do well at regenerating the tissue, and there doesnt seem to be any downside. You pay, so its probably closer to real science than insurance-led middleman medicine.
Nothing you can take orally or even via injection can regrow the cartilage that is the Meniscus. From what I have read there are some implants that can be done but I have not followed up regarding the efficacy.
Neither of my knees had any cartilage left so the bones were also damaged and I had both knees totally replaced. Best thing ever as I can do almost everything I could when my knees were still good, although my Orthopedic Surgeon said if he ever caught me running long distances and Marathons again he would remove my new knees.
I have been following joint replacement with gene thereapy for about ten years. There was a spot out in Denver that was pioneering it. Out of my price range, and at the time they were only doing elbows and fingers.
This is the future.
Yes I have researched it and it is highly successful.
Had a friend who had one knee done, she limped around in pain and now jogs pain free.
Check out who is doing it, better to travel and pay a little more to get a dr with lots of experience in doing these.
I unfortunately have no cartilage left in either knee and can’t get it done....how I wish I could!
