Even the headline of the short essay in the New Yorker was meant to offend, and it did: Chick-fil-As Creepy Infiltration of New York City. The piece, by Dan Piepenbring, has been read, attacked, defended, and ridiculed by far more people than ordinarily read the New Yorker. If the editors goal was to attract online readers, they succeeded.
Piepenbring makes no effort to veil his contempt for the famously clean and friendly fast-food restaurant, of which there are now four in Manhattan. He visited the grand opening of the largest and most recently built one, on Fulton Street in Lower Manhattan. The air smelled fried, he writes. And yet Piepenbring leaves us to wonder many things, including why someone who doesnt like a restaurant should be annoyed that it closes on Sundays.......
The restaurants expansion in Manhattan, he writes, raises questions about what we expect from our fast food, and to what extent a corporation can join a community.
Of course, it raises no such questions. New Yorkers are very lefty in their politics; Chick-fil-As owners are Southerners with strong Christian convictions. But New Yorkers are mostly grownups, too, and theyre capable of coping with this slight dissonance.

Don’t like it, don’t buy food there. Certainly this writer sets the tone for everyone else in NY.
Ive been in Chick Fil A once. (Not a chicken fan). All I saw was a nice, clean sort of fast food place. Kind of reminded me of In & Out. If I didnt already know it was owned by Christians I wouldnt have known. Same with Forever 21 and Hobby Lobby.
These people are just hateful but jobs.
But jobs = nut jobs. Lol
Works either way.
If religion bothers them so much then what do they think of all the “halal” signs that have taken over the food carts on the streets?
America was better when it was a Christian country.
These people just hate. If it wasn’t Chik-fil-a it’d be something else. Nasty rotten people.
Subway sandwiches that include the composite substance of dubious origin that they call oven-roasted chicken cost around $7.
Since the closest Chick-Fil-A restaurant is about 4 or 5 miles from me, I also have only been to a Chick-Fil-A once. There was nothing obviously “Christian” about it, nor was it creepy. The staff was courteous, the place was clean, but I didn’t think the food was as good I had heard it was. The chicken sandwich was a little better than the McDonald’s version, but the waffle fries were mediocre - lukewarm and not crispy at all.
Some of Subway’s varieties of ham are actually turkey, too.
It would have been unthinkable for the author to write a column describing the presence of any other faith but Christianity as an “infiltration.” The fact that this column was even allowed tells us that - on the left - it is now acceptable to publicly mock Christians as Christians, and even to exert pressure to force them out of polite society.
“Im a New Yorker who just spent a happy week in Alabama. Call me nuts but all the churches and religious folk I ran into gave me huge comfort and a feeling of warmth.”
Ain’t that the truth!!! I love going down south. Genuine people there
I read the original in the New Yorker with smile slightly askance. I am still considering the possibility that it may have been a conscious self-parody. If the NYer is not as irony-deficient as I suspect they are.
Yeh LIEberals whats so creepy about Chick fil A? They are restaurants that serve delicious chicken sandwiches, treat customers with courtesy and good service, provide jobs, contribute taxes and add quality value to their locations. That they are Christian Management, stand for certain values and close on Sundays riles up the LIEberals? CFA denies service to nobody all are welcome so long as they are civil and not disruptive like attention seeking leftist misfits. LIEberals hate God - thats the main issue with them.
How come they aren’t bothered by it? They might be. However they also know that the Christian isn’t likely, if you insult them or say anything about them, to pull out a machete, scream “Allahu Akbar”, and cut off your head.
there is nothing, but nothing more parochial than a leftist.
Maybe Christians should . . . Oh never mind. All *OUR* Churches would get raided and burned to the ground a la Waco - on Sunday no less!
Lol - honestly, you’d think they were demanding that their customers sit through sermons and recite scripture before they can order.
Ditto that. Got the same feeling when I visited North Carolina. Even the cashier at the gas station when I went to gas up the rental car greeted me as if I was a friend she hadn't seen in the past year.
Oh, yeah, and the Spicy Deluxe sandwich at Chick-Fil-A is awesome, too :-d)
The attacks on morality and ethics by the left in this country are beginning to be more than disturbing. College educated women are beginning to lean to the left because they have been filled with jackass liberalism throughout their college careers.
