An Erie school district has bought hundreds of new baseball bats and its not planning a massive expansion of any sports programs.
The Millcreek Township School District outside Erie distributed the miniature bats to 500 teachers last week as part of a training program on how to deal with school shooters, the Pittsburgh Tribune reports.
Superintendent William Hall says it cost the district around $1,800 to buy 600 16-inch baseball bats, including some that will be placed in offices and other common areas. Hall says the bats are to give teachers a chance to fight back as part of a procedure with the acronym TROJAN: Threat assessment; run; obstruct and barricade; join forces; attack; and never give up.] [snip]

Throwing fresh fruit at the shooter may be more effective.

How long before some teen inserts some teacher’s bat into that teachers’s orifice?

Throwing fresh fruit at the shooter may be more effective. What about a pointed stick?

Why baseball bats? Why not paperclips?
The answer requires simple logic.
They’d laugh at my suggestion of paperclips, saying a bat could provide much better defense... correct.
But when you’re battling someone with a GUN, you might as well use a paperclip. You’re weapon of defense is WAY behind theirs.
A child could reason this out.. why cant democrats?

15 kids in a classroom and no one thinks of throwing their books? Everyone flinches...and that's all the time you need to pounce.
What stupid people.

After thinking about it for awhile ..I think I would rather have a bucketful of hard balls then a half bath.

Don’t bring a bat to a gunfight.

They could give teachers hand grenades and it would be just as effective...

Just don't have any Texas Rangers pitchers throwing them, they're sure to miss the target./ No kidding. Stars blew the playoffs and once again, the Rangers are not failing in the disappointment arena. However, mini bats as defense against a shooter? Don't even know what to say to that.

Let’s see, now...one school advocates getting buckets of rocks to throw at shooters, now this one wants...yes...sticks.
Sticks and Stones...Is that what we’ve come down to?
Someone said that liberals want to take us back to the stone age, and now it seems to be devolving in that direction.
I don’t know about you, but if some nut comes after me with an AR-15, and all I have is sticks and stones...I’m otta there...immediately.
Here’s a nutcase, already intent on shooting anything that moves, and you rear back with a rock, or raise a 17-inch stick...you’re gonna get shot...probably more than once.
This IS laughable.

And the Mavs tanked to get a better draft pick, but I bet they’ll screw that up too. Not that I care anymore.
