The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds.
From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.
This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks. No matter what, you wont be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isnt asked.
It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table(recipes)preserving, good living - there is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!
NOTE: This is a once a week ping list. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest are welcomed, so feel free to post them at any time.
I ran across a Chef's Tip for growing tasty tomatoes:
1/2 cup sugar 1 cup Epsom Salt 1/2 cup Bone Meal Mulch/leaves etc.
Put into hole and mix well, plant/water well.
Have a great weekend. Prayers up for all. God Bless.
Pinging the List.
We’re still growing white powder snow here in the Cleveland/Akron area!
Well, the climate does change, but not always warmer. We are fortunate so far here.
About 80 of the 100 onion bulbs into the soil - at least for starters - might have to transplant a few (if it’s safe for them - dunno).
More to go. The season is off and running. Much more to do.
Wife and I discovering that we need to wait longer into the early spring before starting seeds. Tomato and pepper seed were started February 15. It’s still chilly at night and our tomatoes are showing blossoms...in our mini greenhouses.
We’ll have to put them out in late March/early April, really before they’re ready. We’ve rigged some freeze covers for our gardens and may need them this week.
Showing my little grandson how to plant herb’s tomorrow. Hope for the future!
Anyone have any experience with Jerusalem artichokes?
Hubby got a lot of his onions planted too.
Hubby always gets stuff going too early too. He covered the green house plants with row cover last night just to be safe.
I just wait. Hard as it is - In my plan nothing except taters and winter crops gets planted until last week of March or First week of April.
That’s so great. Kids need to learn that plants can come from their own efforts - not just the supermarkets.
Soil? Isn’t that the gooey brown stuff underneath the melting white stuff? Been so long since I’ve seen any, I’m not sure any more.
I have none. Hubby is talking about planting some this year.
Finally back.....sorry to have been off line so long. I am now in Louisiana , a lot different from Maine {imagine that?}
No doubt - warmer for sure. LOL
Can you add me to the list?
Thanks!
Yep. Will do.
Wouldn’t the sugar attract more than the usual number of ants?
Temperatures still on the cold and windy side. I have been looking at all the plants and places where seeds have been sown. The bunching onions seeds are starting to sprout. One rose bush is doing well but all the dampness is causing black spot already so will have to remedy that this weekend. Sadly, two of the mini-rose bushes have died. Most likely age but bad weather is not being ruled out.
planted a whole bunch of snowflakes in the backyard- they are doign great- still about a foot deep
