Scotts telomeres (endcaps of chromosomes that shorten as one ages) actually became significantly longer in space, NASA researchers wrote in a statement. The space agency added that Kelly had hundreds of space genes activated by the year-long flight which reportedly altered the astronauts immune system, DNA repair, bone formation networks, hypoxia, and hypercapnia.
While Scott Kellys height and 93 percent of his DNA returned to normal after returning to Earth, NASA confirmed that seven percent of his genes have remained changed and may stay that way. This is thought to be from the stresses of space travel, which can cause changes in a cells biological pathways and ejection of DNA and RNA, researchers added.

“space genes”: genes involved in bone formation, oxygen deprivation, immune system responses and DNA repair remained transformed after Scott Kelly’s return to Earth, NASA reported.

Is stage-4 cancer a super power? If so, then yes
High school photographer gets leukemia from radioactive spider bite.
If they have children later on I wonder if any of the changes are passed on to their children. Hmmm A lot to think about with this information.
I am reading the book he wrote on his 1-year in space, very good and not too technical. It was distressing to read the pain he was in when he returned on earth, couldn’t sleep or be in bed. A lot of changes happen in their bodies, in my opinion they are very courageous going knowing how they will be affected, true pioneers. Wish both brothers the best, even if I don’t agree with their politics.
identical twins that now have “different dna.”
now that is hilarious!
I think this is what led to some upset by the first generation of astronauts. They had put their lives and health on the line for scientific advancement and exploration but the ball was dropped and they never got to see farther exploration based on their journeys.
This does prove that WE are a product of our ENVIRONMENT, and that we EVOLVE if our ENVIRONMENT changes.
Not over billions of years, but rather quickly.
But what bathroom does he use?
“Hes the Edgar Bergen to Rep. Gabby Giffords gun control agenda.”
He’s a freak and a disgrace to the Navy like McCain. Nothing more and nothing less,
Relative gravity and speed both come into play. The effect of the latter is greater than the former in this case.
P
I wouldnt call it evolution, so no new dna is being encoded, just genes we have from birth being switched on or off- so Id call it more adaptation than anything. But yes, we certainly adapt to our environment quickly. If we didnt wed be dead. Imagine having to wait billions of years to adapt to zero g
Nooooo! Hee hee, wait till lifeforms are found on Mars and Europa. People clinging to their Iron Age beliefs will tremble.

It might work. Let’s see. Sounds wacko for sure.
Highly entertaining, nonetheless.
A liberal?
Same genes, different activations.
You are correct. I was thinking about the effects for the Apollo missions, where they did age faster.
Well, clearly it worked: He’s now different than his idiot brother.
