NOBODY, and I mean NOBODY could ever call me a Never Trumper. In fact, I was perhaps one of the very first Trump supporters on this forum.
However, by using his Executive Order to ban bump-stocks as machine guns -- despite the fact that they STILL PULL ONE TRIGGER FOR ONE ROUND BEING FIRED -- he has just done something in an extra-judicial manner.
Despite the clear language of the law that defines automatic weapons -- that one trigger pull discharges multiple rounds continuously -- his EO causes the language to be ignored.
Now, I get that Trump bashed the NRA, then met with them the next day. I get that. Thats chicken feed for the liberals and RINOs.
BUT
Trump banned bump stocks pretty much by Executive Order.
DO YOU REALIZE WHAT THAT MEANS?
It means the first Democrat who gets elected will ban ALL SEMIAUTOS by Executive Order. All they have to do, with this precedent, is show someone firing a semi-auto in a bump-fire method using a pants belt-loop. Voila: It's a full-auto. Therefore, it can be EO'd away.
The right thing to have done was to encourage / demand the House give him a bump stock ban bill. Then get it through the Senate. Then sign it.
But by doing what he just did, he made it possible for Dems to EO firearms away.
If he goes for anything more like below 21 sales it means he is giving away the store and confiscation will be the issue.
With the thin margins Reps have in gun safe districts it means Lame Donald Duck and one and done.
A military unit might have a sniper with a bolt action rifle, another may carry a saw, m249, no?
Think strategically, Laz. As feared, when the maniacs get their way, they use it to open the door and keep demanding more. And establishment ‘pubs don’t have the you-know-what to stand up to ginned up crowds. It happened with the Confederate flag, it happened with Roy Moore (isn’t it something that those who accused him of not breaking the law have disappeared), it happened in Florida with gun legislation. Perhaps the only way to take the wind out of their sales is to ban bump stocks. That way, it’ll be a real good reason to not pass any more legislation based on emotion, not logic.
I imagine, however, Ivanka is pleased as punch.
Thanks for that information.
Laz, you’re right. The constitution is the issue, not the President.
LOL!
Yup
“so a future president would have to ban pant belt-loops by executive order.”
So,,,,, Suspenders for everyone!
Love Trump but in fact you’re RIGHT.
It’s a bad precident.
Aren’t revolvers sort of semi-automatic? The mechanism revolves to the next chamber.
Unintended consequences...
Categorizing bump stocks as machineguns means BATFE violated 922(o) machinegun ban when Obama admin ruled them legal. Now 922(o) is at serious risk of judicial review; _Heller_ said M16 ban was unconstitutional, with a smart lawyer M16s will be legalized.
Trump banned bump stocks pretty much by Executive Order.
Except thats not what happened.

“You can call a fork a spoon but when the definition is reviewed by a court, its still a fork.”
What about sporks?
I don’t agree with everything that Trump does, but I don’t get all bent out of shape and come unglued about the very few things I disagree with him about; instead, I appreciate the 99% of the things I DO agree with Trump about, and accept the 1% I don’t agree about without too much hoop-blah ...
Trump is a traitor. He’s done one of the very few things that guarantees his loss in 2020.
The NeverTrumps were right.
I will not vote for any traitors.
I suggest you back it off a notch; tone it down a bit. Mistakes can be made by any man. This could be one of those mistakes.
Frankly, I'm willing (actually EAGER) to be shown that *I* am mistaken.
“That set a precedent that could easily encompass all so-called Assault Weapons.”
Nope. “Destructive devices” are guns over .50 caliber; shotguns exempted because of well established spring purpose. Striker 12 is deemed not having a sporting purpose (actually kinda stupid design), hence category.
Not precedent for semi auto ban.
If it is anything about the Second Amendment, consider me pre-unglued.
I let the Striker-12 go because of it’s horrific design and manufacture. I shouldn’t have let that one go, either, even if it was a total piece of crap.
