Trump’s base warms to Ted Cruz after president’s amnesty ‘betrayal’
The Washington Times ^ | Tuesday, February 20, 2018 | By S.A. Miller

They aren’t calling him “Lyin’ Ted” anymore.

Sen. Ted Cruz’s stock is rising among members of President Trump’s base who feel double-crossed after the president offered amnesty to illegals in the immigration debate. Some who opposed Mr. Cruz in his 2016 run for the White House are even clamoring for the Texas Republican to mount a primary challenge to Mr. Trump in 2020. The newfound esteem for Mr. Cruz, whom Mr. Trump dubbed “Lyin’ Ted” when they battled for the 2016 Republican nomination, is coming from people who were die-hard supporters of the president.

“Ted Cruz has kept his word to the American citizens, and we are watching this very, very carefully,” said Sue Payne, a conservative activist in Washington’s Maryland suburbs who in 2016 championed Mr. Trump and reviled Mr. Cruz. “I’m getting very sick of Donald Trump right now. He’s turning his back on the people who put him in office.”

The moves by Mr. Trump that have alienated supporters include the budget deal that threatens more skyrocketing debt and a tax cut law that could make people pay more in high-tax states.

No he won’t. He is a liar, and not eligible to be US president but didn’t care. How can someone so unethical and dishonest be a good SC justice?

The Washington Times is not very pro-Trump at all.

Yup, Cruz is a disloyal, back-stabbing, PROVEN liar, and a POS.

I was a Cruz supporter for most of the primaries, but I’m not seeing this at all.

Ted only supported Roberts after he became the choice, like most people (except, apparently, Ann Coulter and me.) He was pushing HARD for Michael Luttig, who would have been a better choice.

Yes, they are. Charlie Hurt, especially. The Times has been for Trump from the very beginning.

Luttig would have been a better choice, but Shrub was an idiot or he wanted some one who could be controlled.

Ted Cruz is not a natural born citizen, ineligible to be President.

Exactly!

Warm to him. Like hell I will. Jumping out of the warmth and into hell’s fire before the foreigner sees my support again. The iceberg would be unable to take all this warming without eventually melting. Vindictive little bast’ard.
He is NO BETTER than the other foreigner. The one we just dismissed. Both lied, and attempted to deceive. SCOTUS? No way Jose.

Doesn’t really matter, anyway. Consider this to be fake news and unworthy of the time spent worrying. The d’rats are on life support and grasping for thin air...The party is sinking in the millions of melted snowflakes.

They don't even mention the seeming eagerness to enact DACA, but that's not surprising. That is a position Donald Trump held publicly as recently as 2015. Or endorsing Romney, among other moves. Mr. President, stop listening to Ditch.

What this basically demonstrates is your inability to think tactically. We neither have DACA, and Mitt will win without Trump.

As for the Washington Times article... I literally am involved with all kings of Trump groups, and there is literally no one who likes Cruz in any of them.

The only people who still like Cruz are the ones who stupidly donated a lot of money on him, and its that sucker's remorse that keeps them keeping on with the "oh, I didn't waste my money or nothing, Cruz is going to catch fire any minute!" scam.

As an unapologetic Cruz supporter I'm not terribly concerned about the amnesty offer. It's a tactical move to reveal the real motive of the RATS is not really the Dreamers but the usual schemers: Open borders, the poorer those poring in the more votes for RATS

Trumps offer ends open borders so it's very likely to be turned down.

This smells like Fake News intended to support Cruz in his efforts Roy oppose Trump and usher in amnesty for all.

“Warming to Cruz”, hell no.
But there must be much more like Cruz and Coulter to hold Trump’s feet on fire about DACA, because with snakes like Ryan and McConnell, we will end up being stabbed in the back before even having time to cry foul.
Let’s be real, Trump was sincere when proposing to legalize 3x more than what the dems wanted and that sucks!
