We keep hearing about NBC's ratings problems, as we see in this report:
At the halfway point of the XXIII Winter Olympics, things are certainly feeling a little chilly for both Team USA and NBC.
As last night's primetime coverage displayed, even with the surprise silver in the short-track speedskating that John-Henry Krueger scored, both the medal count for America's athletes and the ratings for the broadcaster are struggling to gain traction in the PyeongChang games.
Currently, Team USA is in sixth place with 10 overall medals, just behind the Russian competitors, and tied for third in gold medals with Canada's haul of five. As for the Comcast-owned broadcaster, the 2018 Olympics needs a miracle on ice or two to escape being the lowest rated and least watched games ever.
Wow, who saw that coming?
On Sunday, we usually get together for lunch with a bunch of other couples. Naturally, we spoke about the Olympics and the games on TV.
I am not suggesting that this is a scientific survey, but this is what I heard:
1) Why are U.S. athletes telling us about their politics? We don't want to hear it. Shut up and do whatever you went to the Olympics to do. I see a huge backlash against Hollywood and professional athletes over the focus on politics.
2) No U.S. hockey team worth watching. Frankly, this is my reason for not watching. In prior games, the hockey was top-notch. The U.S.-Canada game was superb the last few times. We miss NHL players, although I understand why the owners did not want to interrupt the season.
3) Too much stuff that has nothing to do with sports. Too many background stories, and the treatment of Kim's little sister was just way over the top.

Agree...so boring and irrelevant. Took me a while to figure out what OAR meant.
Do you Maybe its because the poofters became the face of the olympics ?
Chilly? I heard things were nipply for France.
Wardrobe malfunction leaves French ice dancer exposed during Olympic performance

By far the best moment of the Games was the finish in the 15km mass start Biathlon.
Other than that......Meh!
One of the most embarrassing Olympic performances by an American Olympic team ever. Maybe, just maybe, they should focus on their sport rather than preening for the cameras and attention seeking.
LOL me too
Haven’t watched a Millisecond.
As soon as I heard a Liberal Political comment before the Games started, I was done.
That and being on NBC... Naturally Broadcasting Communism.
NBC= Nothing But Crap
Only event left to watch for me is the women’s hockey final. I am from Wisconsin, four of the team played at UW. One of my grand daughters is on a high school hockey team and has attended clinics run by several of the women. After NBC tried to hire the poofer i turned the coverage off.
The Olympics are no longer pure sports.
Any ‘sport’ that requires a ‘judge’ is not a sport, it is ‘entertainment’ and thus has no place at the Olympics.
Makes it hard to watch when every time you try to watch all you get is some weird skating BS that goes on forever...pass.
I was watching the figure skating and the stupid color commentators were just destroying the moment with their inane chatter. I muted it and put on my own music and it was a whole lot better. OTT I only watched the skiers in the half-pipe and downhill.
If I recall correctly, NBC has bought the rights to Olympics up through 2032. So seems.doubtful they would move the broadcast to a niche network or otherwise abandon all the prime time programming they will plan to broadcast.
Then you have the Today Show cast all there wearing their ski hats trying to gin up excitement about these games.
Do the ratings on I phones register somewhere? While viewing on the NBC TV network may be down, are significant numbers watching elsewhere?
... waiting for Opening Day ....
PS: We only have OTA so no spying on what we’re watching by any cable/dish network.
Back in the day, we only had to avoid new and news commentary shows on TV / Cable and perhaps certain movies by Al Gore and Michael Moore.
Now it has spread like stage 4 lung cancer. We have to avoid:
1. NFL football.
2. Much of the NBA.
3. Most sitcoms.
4. Award shows.
5. Olyimpics.
Polarization has accelerated, but as long as we have free elections, we have control.
Watch out.
Exemplified by the Bobsled team, one of the guys has a first name of “Hakeem”.........the sled was constantly hitting the side walls, and they were like in 24th place.
The USOC was more interested in having a team that “Looked Like America” than winning medals.
Not watching now and haven’t in decades.
You nailed it, NBC’s Olympics coverage is basically “The Today Show” with skating.
The Un Olympics have not been on for a second in my house. Snarky leftists can kiss my ass.
