Michelle Obama Unveiled Her Official Portrait – The Audience Reaction Says It All

An official portrait of former first lady Michelle Obama was unveiled at the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery Monday morning. The painting was done by Baltimore artist Amy Sherald, who is known for her social justice painting style.

These are supposed to be real life portraits for posterity.

Instead, they're "black" memorabilia.

It’s weak. Official portraits should be more of the “heroic realism” type. Even for this individual, who was once First Lady of the United States.

Both portraits seem larger than most? A sign of their narcissism or are these normal sized?

Keeping it real.....they're odd portraits. A portrait conveys the inner depths of a person. President Obama almost overwhelmed by an environmentally lush background. Huh???? Michelle's "toned" athletic shoulders fully exposed, and jumping out against the almost colorless background and white dress? It made me think of a turkey leg photographed on a white tablecloth. There are fashion designs that flatter her; that isn't one of them.

That was my first thought, but apparently private donations pay for it now, beginning in the GHW Bush Presidency.

Me, I am completely and totally delighted by this...when I first saw the portraits, I thought “Oh, please...don’t let this be satire...please...please...please!”

It simply fits soooo perfectly.

Ya wanna laugh? I want to the site and couldn’t find the portrait. Yeah I saw what turned out to be the portrait but honestly paid it no attention since it doesn’t in any way manner shape or form suggest M.O.. ZIN fact I thought it an advert graphic.
