California lawmakers are targeting the expected windfall that companies in the state would see under the federal tax overhaul with a bill that would require businesses to turn over half to the state.
A proposed Assembly Constitutional Amendment by Assemblymen Kevin McCarty, D-Sacramento, and Phil Ting, D-San Francisco, would create a tax surcharge on California companies making more than $1 million so that half of their federal tax cut would instead go to programs that benefit low-income and middle-class families.
Trumps tax reform plan was nothing more than a middle-class tax increase, Ting said in a statement. It is unconscionable to force working families to pay the price for tax breaks and loopholes benefiting corporations and wealthy individuals. This bill will help blunt the impact of the federal tax plan on everyday Californians by protecting funding for education, affordable health care, and other core priorities.
As a constitutional amendment, the bill would require approval from two-thirds of the Legislature to pass, a difficult hurdle now that Democrats have lost their supermajority. If passed and signed by Gov. Jerry Brown, it would then go to voters for final approval.

And then they bus the corpses down to the polling place, every election.
To have them each vote 20 times.
A tax cut tax.
What will they think of next?
They are showing remarkable restraint. I expected they would take all of it.
At the point of a gun.

Should five percent appear too small
be thankful I dont take it all
I am truely amazed that Californians continue to elect these dimwits.
Thanks Beave Meister for both.
The steady rise in uncontrollable debt and egress of businesses puzzles drug- and booze-addled west coast analysts:

there is no lie the dems in Cal will not tell. No pressure they will not apply to raise taxes. We pay 21 billion a year for services to illegals and they need every penny they can squeeze from us.
“Dims would take their grandmamas last nickle.”
or as Pappy used to say; “steal coppers from a dead man’s eyes”
Please explain what you mean by optimal. Thanks.
Why just businesses? Residrnts of California should all give over higher taxes if the State demands it. And don’t let the ten million illegals there aboid paying their fair share, just hike the state sales tax.
like Hillary said, we need your money cause we have lots of things we want to do with it,
Because they are communists.
im so glad i escaped 3 years ago. Between crap like this and their bills restricting gun rights, Sacramento has gone over the edge quickly since we left.
Its scary for everyone left.
When we decided to escape Mexifornia, people came out of the woodwork to tell us their escape plans. Most were waiting until after retirement. California does pay well, because of all the mandated policies to force businesses to pay more to employees. If you live in a low cost area of CA, you can do pretty well there.
We saved enough money to escape, with no jobs to go. But it worked out great. We didnt want to be too old to enjoy all East Tennessee has to offer.
If I was a CEO in Kalifornia this would be a final chilling reminder that the state is in control of leftist politicians who are anti-business.
Buh...Bye!
Don’t think so small. My thinking is that they need to go international blaming the libs for their actions. They continue to do this crap because no one calls them on it. Call ‘em! And do it every time. This covert, and sometimes not, series of acts using the media to hide behind with things like reported or someone said junk, needs to be drug right out into the open. Embarrass the he(( out of them. Use their tactics against them only doing it a little but differently, tell the truth. Then they will have to figure out how to play with the same rules. And the GOP has never hammered them like this before. And that’s the only reason the libs exist. Because the GOP allows them to.

It includes, but is not limited to, the following unique combination of factors:
1)The massive talent pool (mostly Asian) at the Engineering and CS departments of Stanford and Univ. Of California at Berkeley. These schools have a very high standard of post-graduate and undergraduate education in the Sciences and Engineering, which is vastly and demonstrably superior to anywhere else on the West Coast or surrounding states.
2) The historic and unparalleled presence of Venture Capital on Sand Hill Rd. in Palo Alto that has served as the incubator and nurturer of Silicon Valley businesses. See this link for more information: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sand_Hill_Road#Venture_capital_firms
3) Great weather and low crime rates in Cupertino, Sunnyvale, Mountain View, Los Gatos, Santa Clara, etc. make it easy to attract and retain the best talent.
4) The large Asian communities (Cupertino is majority Asian) complete the "virtuous cycle" of circumstances by keeping the talent firmly rooted in the Bay Area.
Thank you.
