Researchers at Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center researchers developed a single blood test that screens for eight common cancer types and helps identify the location of the cancer, AsiaNet Pakistan reported.
The test, called CancerSEEK, is a unique noninvasive, multi-analyte test that simultaneously evaluates levels of eight cancer proteins and the presence of cancer gene mutations from circulating DNA in the blood. The test is aimed at screening for eight common cancer types that account for more than 60 percent of cancer deaths in the US.
Five of the cancers covered by the test currently have no screening test.
The use of a combination of selected biomarkers for early detection has the potential to change the way we screen for cancer, and it is based on the same rationale for using combinations of drugs to treat cancers, says Nickolas Papadopoulos, Ph.D., senior author and professor of oncology and pathology.
The findings were published online by Science.

This sounds like great news.
It doesn’t say they do a blood draw, but if they do a blood draw, how is that non-invasive ?
test right now is 500 bucks a pop.
saw tsi article today- great news IF it turns out to be effective- Article states that whenever they run tests, a 50% detection rate is considered very promising- This test however ran at 70% rate- so they are pretty excited about it and rightfully so- hopefully it turns out to be something we see in the very near future- will save tons of money too- as it will be target specific- meaning docs won’t have to run a battery of tests to see where the cancer is originating from-
This is great news if true. Early detection is always the best. Both my dad and my wife had their cancers diagnosed at stage 4.
So in 30 years when the FDA finally approves it McCainCare will prohibit it’s use.

Being a test does it need FDA approval adding many years before it can be used?
That's the path HIFU prostate ablation is on. It's much cheaper and more effective than the slash and burn procedures that are Medicare approved.
I don’t even want to think about prostate issues.
?????
best for pancreatic, too. Grandma died of it. Tumor the size of a football. Siblings and I are hypoglycemic so it’s already misfunctioning.
This could be quite a game changer in early detection. I would think the price will come down once this becomes mass produced. This test is worth every penny if you are in one of these high risk categories.
