That's the message from a nationwide health club chain that has pulled 24-hour cable news networks from TVs at its 128 locations because the "consistently negative or politically charged content" doesn't mesh with the company's "healthy way of life philosophy."
Life Time Fitness, which has 128 locations, said in a statement posted to its Twitter account, "The decision to remove the national cable network news stations resulted from significant member feedback received over time and our commitment to provide family oriented environments free of consistently negative or politically charged content."
The statement continues, "It always is our goal to meet the majority of members' expressed requests and we believe this change is consistent with the desires of overall membership as well as our healthy way of life philosophy."
The Chanhassen, Minnesota-based chain has removed CNN, Fox News Channel, MSNBC and CNBC from its televisions.
According to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, USA, A&E, Discovery, HGTV, ESPN and local over-the-air stations remain.
I wish my local HamPlanet Fitness would do this. They have CNN on the TV in front of the massage chairs. It distracts me while I stuff my face on Free Pizza Monday!
I'm ok with that.........
Don't know what they'll replace the programs with but it has to be better than news..........
Sounds like a sound business decision.
BARNEY!?! That would make me run OUT of the gym!
Good. Like to see them pull CNN from airports.
Used to like watching Lynne Russell on HLN back in the day whenever I worked out at the gym, but for a while now I tune the TVs near me away from the news channels and I’ve gotten almost no complaints about it, lol.
I change CNN/PMSNBC to Fox just to see heads explode.
Good idea!
If they have espfn they haven[t addressed the problem.
Cnn Pays to be there
I take my glasses off. Can barely see the bike control panel much less the tv.
I wish my health club would remove CNN from the TV above the bank of machines where I exercise. There’s one guy who likes watching it, I think he’s related to the manager or something because that TV used to show sports.
If I had to, I would pay to avoid exposure to MSM propaganda.
CNN if most often on at my fitness center, but I usually change it to the golf channel.
Let’s put our billions together and form a Just News Network. Objective anchors and reporters. Investigative reporters like Sheryl Atkinson. News 1 hour every 4 hours 24 hours. International news. technology business the best or highlights from local news around the US. No talking head spaniel shows. If it’s christmas or some other holiday and not enough news, play music for a couple off hours.
Set up our own journalism school. Screen people from college and real life adults who can write, have analytical skill, and won’t taint a story with their own politics. Nothing wrong worthy a 65 year old woman reporter who was a housewife or teacher for 35 years. Or a sharp 18 year old who is going to college and reporting.
Establish our own journalism school to teach the methods we want in our reporters.
No sports, no fashion no entertainment news, unless they re general news stories.
LOL spaniel = panel
Seems everywhere I go these days, there’s a TV blaring in the corner somewhere.
When I go out to eat, I don’t want a TV distracting the meal, and/or the conversation. I can eat and watch TV at home.
It’s either ESPN, or CNN...neither of which I can stand, bellowing throughout the restaurant.
Or even worse, four TV’s, one in each corner, and ALL on DIFFERENT CHANNELS...competing for your attention.
Just turn the damn things off, and IF you must have “background”, make it some soft dinner music, or oldies...something that appeals to the majority of customers.
TV, (and Hollywood)is what has brought down America.
