Lookie, Lookie, Lookie, The Hollywood film industry is headed for the trash bin. Just like the Democrat Party is in self-destruction mode...so is the Hollywood Cabal of political nutcases, crumbling.
Yes, Netflix, Streaming are hurting...but the downfall of the USA film industry is very much being helped to failure and poor performance in both revenue income and ticket sales by poor product and even worse poor choice of politics. Going through life as an avid Left-Wing, Progressive, Hate America, Democrat carries little positive political reward.
Even Rupert Murdoch was wise enough to dump his film activity onto Disney. Murdoch certainly knew and realized that Fox News Channel & Fox Business News, CXable TV channels, where the goose that keeps laying the golden eggs of huge profits, was the income producing gem of his empire.
Until the political aura of the "lost in space" Hollywood ego maniacs, grasp reality, the downward trend of the USA film industry will continue, unabated.

They put out TRASH nowadays. 99.9% of the time, on a good day.

I too used to be a regular movie goer back in the 80s-90s, but now it’s maybe once a year - only to indulge my wife or daughter.
I cannot stand all the “end of the world” via aliens or asteroid scenarios.
All the stupid special effects the feel they need to use nowadays.
All the history revision to accommodate political correctness.
All the anti-Christian/Conservative/white people stuff they also feel the need to insert in every film.
And as others have stated, all the TERRIBLE writing and storylines in films who’s basic premise might have made a great film.
I used to like Woody Allen’s films because they used to be funny and inventive. Then he got stuck writing about rich New Yorkers to whom I could not relate to and rehashing the same scenario in a different situation over and over and over... like I care about some “poor” tv writer who’s real ambition is to write that book or play while hes sleeping with someone elses wife or behind his own wifes back...
Voila! - another Woody Allen film!

As an aside, the prospect of making a new movie is incredibly risky. It’s a lot of $$ for a one-time shot; lot of pressure to get it right. In contrast a series is much more forgiving, the characters can evolve, plot line expands, etc. Hence, traditional movie studios are risk-averse and continue to rehash content; new producers such as Netflix, AMZ try new storylines over series.
I, for one, owe my very existence to liberals banning metal Jarts.

Trump should take a stand on this issue. It could only help his favorable ratings. Americans have been cucked into paying extra for each and every new car to have them air bag equipped when a seat belt and shoulder harness work better and air bags are a potential danger.
Lawn darts were killed by liability law and Safety Nazis. The same Safety Czars wonder why kids don’t go out and play in the yard anymore.
It’d be interesting to know if the theatre in question was using an industry sound scheme or what? Even back in the day no one in, say, a United Artists theatre, cold in any way manner shape or form mess with any element in the sound chain or placement of same. You may well have been listening to what the Sound Mixologist mixed. We music mixers take our mixes out into the real world and listen on functioning systems. If I mixed on only my system (Adam A7 and UAD Apollo) and put it out, the result would actually be absent in the highs and overall quieter and somewhat low and mid heavy. I mix a power pop tune on only the record monitor system and it has the Eq profile of a late 50’s Perry Como record! I myself have sat in a theatre wondering what the heck refrence the mixer had. Way too much dynamic range as well. To modern ears any more than 6 dB may be a bit much.
Do you really think an industry that hauls in nearly 11 billion dollar annually (and that’s domestic, and only box office) is dying?
That’s basically what I was trying to outline.
I cannot go pay money for a movie - let alone stomach a performance, good, bad or indifferent - by a personality I despise for their BS activism.
They can have their personal opinions, but I refuse to support those who conflate their “business” with their politics for the purpose of using their popularity as a bully pulpit.
It is no coincidence that “Dixie Chicked” is a term all its own...

Disney seems to be surviving.
On the other hand since I was 5, I have probably been to over 1600 movies in my life. This year I went to 1. I make list and wait for them on Directv or streaming.
I can’t stand the noise from people jabbering, usually and older couple “Why did she leave him Honey? Also loud sound, commercials and 12 trailers. i can watch commercials at home.
I’m 71 and have nice Samsung and a good computer monitor. I don’t need the theatre.

I’m hypersensitive to low frequency sound so it’s the low end that mostly gets me. I sense poor Q of a subwoofers like no other I’ve met.
My prototype sound system is tri-amped with ported bass crossed over at roughly 120hz. Mids are in their own sealed chambers and highs are engineered horns broadcasting compression driver output. My 21” dual driver powered cube governs 50-120hz and my 7ft t-line fills in the bottom from 50 to below subsonic at 12. Most people who listen to my system have one response: “Wow.” 2ch is a benchmark I can’t achieve anywhere sans orchestral performances. Multi-channel is rooted in my custom center channel.speaker (for obvious reasons), which is literally 2 custom sealed mid chambers connected to a center housing for compression driver broadcasting via a wide dispersal horn. I tried a half dozen driver/woofer combinations before I found the drivers which met both my measured specs and listening satisfaction.
Simply: I’m a total ass when it comes to sound quality and have walked out of theaters and demanded refunds, much to the chagrin of my wife (who could care less).
It’s just that we’ve pretty much stopped going to the theater for all.of the reasons I outlined. I don’t care to stress about ruining a night for reasons I both cannot control and have come to expect as normal; so I don’t bother anymore.
You’re right: Some ass had to have dialed their system into distortion to have effed it up as badly as you described, but I have walked out for a helluva lot less.
Good...I think I will create an empty movie complex on my layout.. It will say, ‘Sorry, closed to Crappy movies from Liberal Hollywood!’ :-)

Before the show started there was one of those mini adverts about the sound and picture system they were using liquid something or other.
I am not exaggerating on the bad sound my wife noticed it immediately and she never pays attention to such. At times the speakers were distorting because they had it up so loud, my guess either the system has been damaged and the woofers and tweeters were blown and they turned off the amps to those or the crossover was damaged or someone just had fiddled with the settings and screwed it up and to get it loud enough the just cranked the mids up. Because if what I heard is supposed to be the sound they were shooting for someone needs beaten with a spiked ball bat.

Exactly.
The domestic box office was hurt by underperforming sequels and star-driven movies. A-list actors can no longer sell tickets on name-recognition alone.
Also, when comparing 2017 vs 2016 box office charts, there was a drop off of ticket sales on mid-budget and smaller movies as well.
In 2016, 35 movies grossed between $50 million and $99.99 million. In 2017, only 18 movies have done that so far. I think the future is pretty bleak for non Blockbuster type movies in the theater.
I think cable and streaming TV is superior to most movies these days.
