Puzzled as to why the Feds thought they needed a Constitutional Amendment to make a drug illegal in the first place.Maybe the propaganda wasn't strong enough for people to change society.

Or, perhaps, because way back then, people believed the feds were limited to certain enumerated powers, and banning booze (or other "bad things") isn't a federal power listed in the Constitution. That is, unless people take a statist/Orwelian/modern Democrat party view of the Commerce Clause as THE means for regulating pretty much everything.
Nonetheless, I'll take my scotch with some ice today.
