Currently at $235,000 and counting...

I thought this story about a forgotten man being found by good people was appropriate for today. God works in mysterious ways. Happy Thanksgiving, FReepers.

There are millions of formerly middle-class folks who were foreclosed on as a result of the great fraud of Wall St. bankers trading on their homes and taking down the economy for profit. Many of these formerly middle-class are living in their cars or RVs and they will give the shirt off their backs to someone in need as a matter of dignity because they feel ashamed.

This travesty is due to Obama who had his people rake in hundreds of billions in bank settlements only to pass them to leftist crony groups. This is all true.

But of course, we never heard much in the MSM about homelessness until Donald Trump took office.

Great story for Thanksgiving. I am wondering why we don’t have services that would help someone with their paperwork, etc.. Being a Vet would surely qualify this man for assistance.

That was a very nice way for this girl to return the favor to this homeless guy. However, at this level of fundraising, I have to wonder what’s driving her? Some people are fully led by their emotions, and spend most their lives rationalizing what they chose to do after having done it.

In other words, don’t be surprised to hear that this young lady and the homeless guy take the money and run, leaving ‘Supportive and Mature’ Boyfriend home alone.

Better buy this girl a puppy or start a family quickly.
Give her something to lavish those nurturing feeling on, before she convinces herself that the Homeless Guy ‘needs her’ more than her current man.

Shockng how short the path from comfortable lifestyle to homeless.

God bless him for his generosity and concern for anothers safety and hers for not forgetting.

It seems at bit excessive to buy $20.00 in gas which should weigh around eight gallons.

That’s more than fifty pounds of gas to haul.

Oh, I appreciate your story. I think if we could learn the stories of many homeless people, we would find that the people they once were are not who they are now.

I used to work for a food bank, and we have our share of street people/homeless shelter volunteers. One man, a quiet little man who came in to sweep the floors because he couldn't lift crates or push hand trucks, was such a man.

One day, the man died in his little make-shift tent. He had some belongings: a sort-f scrapbook, letters, and, of course, many empty cheap-wine bottles.

We also found that the man was once a high-priced, in-demand attorney from Chicago. One day, his wife with their children in their van was going through an intersection with the green light. A driver tee-boned the van, killing all of them.

The man began to drink huge amounts. lost his practice, and stumbled out of Chicago on his way west.

It would be easy for us to criticize the man, accusing him of not having character or gravitas. But none of us probably have gone through his experience, nor have we lost the certification papers entitling us to work in our professions or jobs.

"Currently at $235,000 and counting..."

That could go away very quickly in an expensive area. He should consider finding a house that he can buy without a mortgage.

Becoming a certified paramedic and serving in USMC are very difficult and challenging things to do. I wonder what went wrong with his life. I’d guess drugs.

That’s way too much money for one person. I hope she donates most of it to a good charity with very low overhead or maybe to a specific shelter.

How are such donations handled from a legal and tax perspective? Does somebody have to declare it as income and pay tax on it? Does person setting up the account have to become a certified non-profit to receive the money? Or can the person direct the money to an already extant non-profit?
